I'm new yota tech and talking to people about them .. I dont understand the term first gen. or second gen........anybody wanna clue a dummy in , it should be worth a good laugh to some of you veterans anyway

 

First generation is 84-89, second generation is 90-95, 3rd gen is 96-02, 4th gen is 03+ (for 4runners). Each generation is basically a redesign of things like body, suspension, and mechanical. Even if trucks are of different years, if they are of the same generation, chances are many things are compatable or very similar.

 

1st gen pickup 79-83, 2nd gen pickup 84-88 3rd gen 89-95
1st gen 4runner 84-89, 2nd gen 4runner 90-95...

 

It refers to 1st and 2nd "Generation"
For pick ups 79 to 83 is first gen 84 to 88 is 2nd gen 89 to 95 is 3rd gen .
Then they became Tacomas , and now the Tacoma is in its 2nd gen .

For 4Runners , it starts in 84 and goes to 89 , thats first gen , and so on and so on .

 

Looks like we all replyed at the same time , but I am the slowest typer
