Hey guys,

I am thinking about picking up a pair of 33x12.50x15R for my pick up this weekend. The rubbing is not a concern of mine as I will purchase the appropriate lift for it the following day.
1991 Toyota Pickup(xtendcab)
3.0L V6, Stock gears, Stock auto tranny
Plans of future rear locker and possibly front locker.

Will I have any problems with these tires when it comes to acceleration?
Are the tires too much for my tranny and gears?
How much would my mileage change?
Would I be better off staying with 31's or 32's?

 

How soon are you looking at locking the front and rear? If soon regear then and you will be fine with 33's. For now your acceleration will not be great and it will not hold OD very well. I would suggest adding an aux. tranny cooler no matter what size you go with. You would be surprised how fast the tranny temp will climb when it kicks out of OD on the freeway or when accelerating.

 

IMHO, the autos are undergeared from the factory. If you want to hold overdrive, you're looking at 5.71's with 33's.

Save the money on the lift - put on 33x10.50, they'll fit stock height on the stock rims.

You have 4:30's, most likely for auto. Won't kill the trans w/33's and stock gears, certainly shorten the lifespan, depending on a lot of variables. No way to avoid the perfomance issues, if you add hp you make the trans strain more. Mileage not as much as difference, from my personal experience. Trade offs, ain't they a ........ Shoot over the mountain, let's go wheel, bro. Or, maybe I do same. Unless I got you confused for a different river, so many puns involved, Oregon locals needn't strain your noodles tryin' to get what I'm sayin, sorry.
