Replace idler pulleys?

Hi,

2 questions:

1. How important is it, or how good of an idea would it be, for me to replace the 2 idler pulleys (or, as Non my '92 3.0 on my way back out of this head gasket replacement? I've seen a couple of people mention it as something to do while you're in there. Both of mine spin really well with no apparent resistance or noise...
I'm ready to move forward to the end of this job pretty quickly now, but if I have to replace those it'll be another few days until I can get replacements.

2. If I do need to replace the upper idler pulley, Napa shows 2 different types for that year, based on what month of the year my 4runner was manufactured. Does anyone else know about this distinction? How can I tell which one mine is? I haven't seen anything about this anywhere else. One of the 2 types is $40 and the other is $80...

Jason

If you've got the cash I would say it's a very good idea, you don't want to be pulling it apart again if one of them goes in a few months. As for the 2 different types I don't know. I got a new upper one for my 93 at the dealer and they didn't say anything about that.

I replaced mine when I did my engine swap from old 22re to new 22re... (it's not really a swap). But anyway's, I would if I had the money. I say take off the old one and compare. But only if you want to replace it. I don't think they are that bad but just to be on the "safe side" It's up to you.

If they go bad then you will have to replace them later on anyway. It just depends on what you are willing to spend and do. It won't hurt to change them now... well it might hurt your wallet, but that's about all.
