I am looking for any info on these 2 tires I am considering as replacements. They are the Pro Comp Xterrain & the Goodyear MT/R.

Go with the X-Terrain! They are great tires. They are sooooo good off road, and incredibly quiet on road. Plus they are a little cheaper than the MTR's

 

just hearsay but I thought the pro comps were kind of soft and don't last as long since they are geared more towards offroad use. so I think if you drive on pavement and offroad not much (20%) then you might consider going with a harder rubber like the goodyear or possibly the bfg versions. I was looking at the pro comp's until I actually went to the store and felt the diff between the softness. good luck dude.

 

Quiet is good. My General Grabber MTs are getting loud in their old age.

The Goodyear MT/R is $14.00 more than the Pro Comp at 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers. I had the BFs for a while & really didn't like them. They lost traction pretty easily to me.

 

They are MUCH softer tires, there for they don't last as long, but it's worth it. I havn't driven a truck with MT/R's on it, but I've been in one and seen them off road. They do really good, but I like my X-Terrains a little more.

 

Ask JSB what his brother Kevin can get the MT/R's for. I got 265/75r16 for $128 each and about $140 with road hazard. Its a great tire and I'm quite happy with them.

 

haha, mine just dig holes really fast if I give it too much gas rather than letting the gription pull me through a mud or sand pit. I can't believe how these things dig!

 

Mine did to. These Generals I have now are twice the tire the BFs were. Of course I can't do the simple thing & just buy them again because I know they work. NO I want something new to try

 

I think my MT/R's are very quiet for an aggressive tire. Also they have a very soft ride. I aired them to the 38 front 40 rear I ran on my old tires and it is way way softer a ride. I will air them up some more to see how they handle it. Right now it feels like my old 31's did when they didn't have enough air in them on the hills.

 

I'll have to keep the Grabbers in mind for the next set. I may be buying some black wheels so I just may have to put some tires on them, they might be the ones.

 

word on the street is that the pro-craps have very weak sidewalls, which is enough for me to not even consider them as a tire choice. MT/Rs have a fairly strong sidewall, I would go with them just for that reason alone.

 

I've seen MT/R's on rock crawling competition rigs as well as desert racers. Good all around tire with a very strong sidewall. I don't think they last as long as a lot of other mud tires though.

 

They get really good reviews in the stuff I have read about them. Are you talking about them having role during Hwy driving or collapsing in off road use?

I had heard that they puncture more easily when aired down off road. Never driven them but they sound like they have lots of traction.

That said the MT/R's are used in professional rock crawling competitions and they offer a very nice on-road ride even when aired up to high air pressures.

 

I know this wasn't one of your options, but I currently have BFG MTs and really like them. I had the old style BFG MTs on my last truck and didn't like them at all, as they were way too loud. The new design is very quiet (in my tire size at least) and very good traction, although they are soft and seem to be wearing quickly. I have also used the Goodyear tire but it was in a very large size for competition so it's not really a fair comparison. The writes-ups on the X-terrains sound really good, if you can believe the ads, and they are cheaper.

 

 

Jason, those are MT/R's right? Hard to tell with them covered with mud. I can see a little tread pattern on the front tire and it doesn't look like X-terrains.

i've heard nothing but good things about those tires. i have them, and they're good on road and great off road. i have about 6000 miles on mine so far and they still look new.
