i have a 1988 runner with rear drum brakes and it is now, finally getting really cold where i live and when it gets below freezing, and i use my e-brake at night, when i come out in the morning, it is stuck on. is anyone else having this problem?is it the brake itself freezing on or is it something along the brake line??im sure its the brake itself, because i looked along the brake line and tried to free up anything that might have been frozen and keeping it from disengaging.. i just wanted to see what you guys had to say, if anything.. thanks

 

I have an 84 Camry. The rear brakes would do the same thing on the few very cold nights we have here.

I assumed it was a little moisture on the shoes causing them to stick to the drum somehow. Probably, the older the vehicle, the easier they are to stick since the drums may be more worn or grooved.

I just made it a habit not to engage the e-brake on very cold days.

 

It is more than likely the "Parking Brake Bell Crank" that are getting stuck. See this post and look for the info/link I posted as to what/where is sticking. Once we start to get moisture + freezing temps, I stop using my ebrake.

ok thank you, yeah i havent been using it lately, because this same thing happened two weeks ago and i had to wait for it to get warm out to use my truck.. but i completely forgot the other night, because i parked on a hill at my friends house.. and it wasnt all night either it was just a couple hours.. but yeah.. i think im just gonna wait for my truck to "thaw" haha, and then just get used to not using my ebrake for long periods of time..thanks you guys
