After 3 years and 50,000 miles, my 275/70/16 REVOS are shot. As in useless with tonight's light dusting of snow. I thought I could hold out until Spring to get a new set, but I realized tonight that these dry-rotted donuts are ready for the dump.

My 2001 sits a bit higher than normal as I installed a new set of '99 coils and Bilsteins a few years ago. I also added a 1" machined spacer in the rear at that time. I've been very happy with the overall feel and look of the truck with this setup, but am now wavering between getting another set of 275/70 REVOS, or going with the 265/75 size. I really like the added width of the 275 tires, but recently removed the flimsy rubber/aluminum wheel arch moldings. This makes the tires stick out a bit too much for my taste.

If I decide on the 265/75 size, should I have any issues to contend with, other than spinning a slightly taller tire than what I have now? I also think they're a bit heavier (in the C or SL load range).

Here is a pic of how the truck has looked for 3 years. Should I stay with 275/70, or go to the 265/75?

I would go with the 265/75 BFG at, that's what I am going for real soon, I have put about 10k miles on my Dueler's and am not too pleased with them, they are terrible in snow and only mediocre offroad and useless on the trail when it starts raining and getting the dirt wet

 

my only caution on the bfg at's is that if you see mud, they load up real quick.

i too would go with the 265/75r16 bfg at, or mt depending on what your needs are, if its a dd, youll want the at over the mt.

other than that, they are an awesome tire. living in socal, all i really ever see is dirt, sand, and rock.

 

I agree with SeanOrz, if you are looking at mud, not a good tire.

Other than that, they are great in the snow, and wear well.

 

Thanks for the replies. The 4Runner is my daily driver and is used for work, which means it spends the majority of its time on-road. That and long road trips throughout the year. I've been very pleased with the wear of the REVOS and have rotated every 5,000 miles. At this point I see no reason to switch to a different tire, rather, I am trying to decide on size.

Even though I spent another hour searching on YT last night, the decision is no easier Some people love one size, and the next person loves another. Again, I've been very pleased with these tires, but wanted to reduce the width by a hair without going back to the stock 265/70 size. Hence the interest in 265/75.

I've got 265/75's and have been happy with them. The question is: would you rather have a little more height than width? 75's fit the bill for me!

 

Well, after removing the small wheel arch flares (standard SR5 trim), the 275/70 REVOs stick out a bit oddly. I think going with the 265/75 will give me a nice-sized tire, with a very slight reduction in width. Or so I presume

Tires sticking out a little looks cool...until you start flinging mud or snow! IIRC, 265/75's give about .5" height, but take away .5" in width. I'd do 265/75's without the flares.

 

Why not put some Bushwackers on if you are worried about the tire sticking out.

 

I did the taller tires and love 'em.
The taller tire will actually set your speedo accurate.
The stock tires seem to throw the speedo off by a few mph.

I have yet to find a set of clean, black flares that I like. I'm not interested in drilling into the fender edges either. If you can point me to a flare that attaches via adhesive only, I'll consider it. The stock moldings (shown in my pic above) trapped grit for 5 years and left a nice outline in my paint

I'm leaning towards the 265/75 REVOs.... I need to order these, one way or the other.

Also, the bigger tires are heavier and your mpg drops. I have 33" tires in my Taco and I only get 15 mpg after a tune up...I might go to smaller tires.

 

I went from stock 265/75 to a heavier 265/75 Nittos and saw a very minimal 1mpg drop.

If I'm reading the Bridgestone charts right the 275s are 10.8 for section width and 8.1 for tread width. The 265s are 10.6 and 8.1 respectively. I dunno if 0.2 of an inch is going to be noticeable looks-wise. The 265s are probably going to ride stiffer due to the higher load rating. I'm thinkin' the 265s might be more money and harder to find in stock to boot.

Here is what I pulled off Tire Rack's site (Standard Load rating for each):

265/70/16 Section width: 10.6", Tread width: 7.8", Diameter: 30.7", Cost: $147.

265/75/16 Section width: 10.6", Tread width: 7.8", Diameter: 31.9", Cost: $135.

275/70/16 Section width: 10.8", Tread width: 8.1", Diameter: 31.2", Cost: $154.


Either way, the agony is over - I ordered a set of the 265/75/16 REVOs earlier today

I will get them installed Friday morning and will report back.

The tires arrived today - I think they will work just fine. Now I need to wait until Friday morning to have them installed.

Since I went to 265/75 I have had a few front end problems. I cannot confirm that they are due to the tire but my mechanic suspects it.
