86 22r running rough

need some help with a 86 22r 2wd 4spd with 84k original miles, just replaced head gasket and shes runnin rough at idle, smooths out when driving and starts right up it 18 degree weather. choke seems to be workin ok, not sure if it needs cap and wires and plugs or if the carb nees rebuiding. hate to throw money at parts but might have to. ran fine before headgasket. the head wasnt milled and the valves havnt been adjusted because they arent noisy and i hate to mess with them.could it be the accelarator pump? also seems to have a miss at idle that comes and goes but she runs smooth runnin down the road. this truck also has the bed with the lip around it and the tailgate with the two latches-- whats the dif between the other kind? ha d 85 with other type of bed but she rip -frame rusted got her-- also have 94 2wd truck that was makin rattlin noise- adjusted valves- new water pump- but found out plastic timing chain guide was gone and thats next project-orderd steel set from enginbldr- waitin on big brown truck--thanks for help!!

If you removed the head then you need to adjust the valves, if you do not hear the valves then they are to tight thus causing a miss.

Also check your vaccum lines, that they're hooked up properly and not cracked or dryrotted.

well i checked all the hoses and emisions for leaks everything is good, the truck still is gettin poor mileage and seems to be runnin a bit off. gonna throw in some plugs wires and cap and see if that helps and a egr valve- i dont want to mess with adjusting the valves, they aren't making any noise but if it continues will adjust. truck just passes emissions test, hoping plugs and wires fixes it. any suggestions ?? thanks for helpin--

well i think i hit the jackpot-- i checked the aap valve on the carb- i removed the hose- it had good vacuum and gas dribbled out of carb inlet- she now runs smooth--when i removed hose no gas sprayed out inside the carb like its supposed too-- now where do i find the replacement part for the aap? thanks
