So I was reading a bunch of snorkel threads on here and all of them seemed to involve removing/cutting/modifying the fenders in some way, which as far as I can tell is a lot of work and calculation, and not good if you mess up. What I was thinking is to cut a hole in the hood, one hole and your done. Have a little rubber flexy duct pipe attached and underneath a water tight foam seal created when you close the hood that is then routed into the airbox. Anyone heard of this being done? I'm not really thinking of doing it (yet) but just wanted to see if anyone had done it before and incase anyone was thinking of putting in a snorkel have another shcool of thought.

 

Hmm, how are you going to open the hood then? Sketch up something in paint, I'm having a hard idea picturing it so that its functional and looks good... For the 3.0, you've also got the problem of the intake being on the driver side. I think that anything in the way would seriously restrict vision...

 

I agree with Adam on this one...

If your unsure about cutting your fenders, find a way to route it back through the firewall, and put your actual intake in the cab of the truck, down in the footwell. I've seen it done, its pretty loud, but it keeps it dry...
I wouldn't run it that way, but I would do it before cutting my hood.

 

Are you talking about just having an open hole in the hood, with flexy pipe stuff goin to the airbox? If you wheel in such a way that you are gonna need a snorkel, then your chance of water going over the hood is great. Buying one of the snorkel kits or making one that looks like them give you what, 2-3 feet higher.

 

you would have vision issues, and you would also have issues with the opening and closing of the hood, i really doubt you would get a good seal. its a good idea, in that you dont have to cut the fender, but its just gonna get in the way more then cutting the fender does...thus its kinda impractical. and do you really need to have a snorkel that bad?
