Is this a good deal on a new Dell?
Total price including shipping is $1,361.00, but I must act quickly to get all the discounts. Seems like a good deal including monitor, 2Gb ram, 250 Gb HDD and free Vista 'upgrade'. Am I overlooking something crucial for video editing?

Seems like a good deal. Few things:
- I would 1000% recommend the Dell 24" Widescreen LCD. Incredible screen.
- If you're doing video editing you'll need a LOT more than a 250Gb HD. I would recommend planning on around 750Gb-1Tb depending on how much you will do, and where it will be stored. Might want two HD's in a RAID array for data redundancy. I have 460Gb on my computer, and I can fill it up no problemo.
- No speakers? Video has audio too, and you'll want to be able to hear it well. I might recommend a good Soundcard (Creative X-FI) and some decent speakers.
That's about all I can think of.
EDIT: Also, if you can see if you can get your RAM split into four (4) sticks, 512Mb each. For DDR2 ram each of you CPU cores will be able to take better advantage of the Dual-channels if they each have access to two sticks. If four sticks is a no-go, at least make sure you have two.
EDIT: Might want to see if you can get a Firewire port on that thing too, many DV cams use Firewire for video x-fer.

I second the motion for the 24" screens. Having used a pair of em when I worked for a mechanical enginnering company, I must say they we're freakin' sweet! Everything looks small after you spend some time with those monsters!

You guys are going to cost me! I believe in stepping up to future proof instead of going on the cheap. Thanks for the good tips.
I had doubts about the video card too. I have a 250 Gb external Firewire HD for projects that will be transferred to DVD masters. Got a good set of speakers now. Didn't know about the RAM config to ask for, good to know! Box will have two Firewire ports. I have one 20" Viewsonic now and thought I'd rig the other 22" as an extended desktop for video editing only. Shouldn't that work as well or better than one 24"?
