'01 SR5 Flare Removal

Looking for some help removing the fender flares on my '01 4Runner. I have to get one repainted and I will save about $100 in labor if I remove it myself.

I did a search and only turned up one thread with some steps on how to do it but the pictures did not work.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't care how careful you are, you will break some clips. Get some before you start pulling them off. Other than that just remove the screws and start pulling. Not that hard to do.

A tree removed my left rear flare a couple weeks ago. Broke a couple clips, and damn near impossible to get it back on.

Anyone else? I am afraid of just yanking on it as I don't want the flare to crack. The clips I don;t care about as I can get new ones.

you have to go in from the cargo panel, i believe

i have to install one i got off an 01 that was rolled, thanks to a tree taking mine off.. and the guy who took it off the rolled truck said he went in through the cargo panel.

Yep, you have to take off the plactic panels on each side of the cargo area to get at the clips to push them out from behind.
Don't just yank on them or you may damage the fender flare in doing so.

Oops, well same principle, push from the inside out, the clips are the same front and back.
You might even conside removing the fender to make the job easy.
