Truck dies when I stop

Just rebuilt the motor. 22re. I tookit for a drive around the block and it would die when I pushed in the clutch and let it idle. Start it back up and it would idle. Low. I now the valves need to be adjusted again because they are pretty loud, Could this be the problem??

Also I'm using feeler guages that are .08 and .12. Are these supposed to be mm, or sae? I looked for a mm feeler guage and cant find one that goes that low. Am I using the wrong guages?

You can't adjust the idle higher? Im not familiar with the EFI but there has to be a way to adjust the idle.

if it idles low anyways then it going to have a hard time goign from a high rpm to idle without dieing. IME with carbs if the idle is low and you cut gas to the engine (throttle hits the idle screw) then the engine dips then recovers to the idle.

That sound about right. Yes there is an idle screw. Do you think having a cam in it is making it idle different?

yes a cam would have a big difference in idle if it is aftermarket

There is a good chance that the timing chain is off by one tooth, and the cam is timed "late". This would also cause ignition timing to be late, and would result in a very slow idle, as well as low power in general. .008 and .012 are SAE measurements, means 8 thousandths and 12 thousandths of an inch.

you can up the idle by turning the idle adjust screw. I believe tightening it raises the idle. the screw is to the left (passenger side) of the throttle body, just infront of the tb.

you're just hitting the clutch and it dies? or clutch and brake? I've seen an older crown vic that had a vacuum leak somewhere in the brake booster that would die when you used the brakes because the vacuum controled the idle

timing can be off and also try lossening up your distributor and twisting it just a little bit up or down while its running to see if it makes a difference. also check coolant levels make sure you have coolant in the resevoir. my 94 pick up had the same problem and it was because the coolant was low and partially cause the timing was off.
