'91 4Runner 4WD / 5 speed...I wanted to get at the PCV Valve as I've always heard that if they clog it leads to seal blow-outs elsewhere (I have a fairly-bad leak at the front of the motor just to the left of center if you're facing the front of the motor. clues??).

I raised the air intake / intake manifold thingy to get at it. I was planning on lifting it completely off, but the factory service manual isn't too kind as it appears to skip several steps of things to remove before it will lift.

Anywho, got finished then lowered it back down, reinstalled all vacuum hoses, etc. I reconnected the battery and this caused the alarm to go off. (Is this related?) It's a Toyota alarm, but may be a dealer install? I'm not familiar with it.

Suddenly, I have to push in the Clutch override switch button to start the truck. Any ideas on a fix for this or if I can permanently override this? It may be cool on newer cars to pushbutton start, but I don't like it!

sounds like the switch on the clutch pedal isn't registering that its depressed. The starter will not start if it's not recieving a signal from either the clutch pedal itself being depressed, or the override switch like you say.


here's the wiring diagram from a supra to compare too, the wire colors will likely be different for you but the circuit functions the same way.

I don't have any idea how doing what you said would affect the clutch pedal switch though . . .

 

I have the same "bad switch" situation. Anyone have success fixing it or is replacement of the switch needed? If so - anyone know what the part number might be?

Looked at the wiring diagram you linked to....but I am illiterate at wiring diagrams apparently....I wasn't sure which switch.

Un plug the switch make a jumper wire plug it in tape things up your good to go!!
