I've been looking on here for the past 1 hour and I am wondering if 33x10.50's will rub. It's and 88 runner with bj spacers and shackles and aal. Some said that they will rub while others said they don't. If they rub how bad will they? What can you trim? What is the pinch weld? I have fender flares.

yes they will rub, get a 1 or 2" body lift.

 

What backspacing are you going to be using on the wheels? I have only BJ spacers in the front with 33x10.5's on 15x8 3.75" backspacing and I have NEVER rubbed...

 

redrunnertc is runnig 33x10.50 on his stock rims and he wheels the piss out of it. I didn't believe him but he brought it by the store and sure enough they do. Look him up in search. If i remember correctly I think he has some pictures of his runner before and after the 33's

 

run 33x9.50 BFG ATs, there are a few guys running them on early model pickups with little or no lift.

 

They should be fine, I had em on my 95 4Runner with rear coils lift only.

you should be OK with the 10.5. 12.5 will rub without a body lift but the 10.5 seem to be OK from what I have seen. Check out Crawlers site for more info - sorry I don't have the link here but someone can post it for you.

 

Dont know if they'll rub or not but i think the people their refering to might be running the newer body style 4 runners. you got an '88 so the fenders are different.

not sure if it helps but i have a '87 pickup (fronts the same) with BJ's shackles and 2" body on 31x10.5's .... before the 2" body my fronts rubbed and punched int he rear area of the front fender (on the inside). FYI.

Oldschool 'runners didnt come stock with 31's i dont think? ... 89 - 95 did, with that V6 and bigger fender wells. Someone correct me if im wrong.

 

If it rubs, it will probably do so on the pinchweld, I wouldn't bother with the body lift. Just trim, or take a BFH and persuade the pinchweld.

Planning on going 33x12.5s here for the added off-camber stability the 10.5s would seem to lack...

 

Yeah, the fenders are a bit larger on the 89-95's and can fit them with no lift.

I'm wiling to bet that you'll be OK with your setup, might take some pinchweld beating.

With my 31x10.50s I get about a half inch spot of rub on the front part of the fender when at full stuff and full inside lock. I can't even notice it happening, but I see where it's rubbed off a tiny bit. From what I can tell, the taller tire would not make this any different.

A 9.50 would eliminate it and a 11.50 or larger would make it worse. Probably requiring me to beat it or get a body lift. Therefore I will be staying with 10.50 width tires at this time and juncture and probably for some time after seeing as I'm not going to SAS this truck. Which means I'm not going to go larger than 35's EVER, and probably only 33's if at all.

 

One other note (in case people are searching in the future):

I also run 34x9.50-15 TSL's and they rub significantly (but not horribly) IMHO because they are on 4" BS (AR767 steelies) rims. I bet they wouldn't rub either on the 4.5" BS stock rims... Width causes MUCH more fitment issues than diameter. (Heck, that Toyofast guy used to run 35x10.50 with no lift)

 

So what backspacing on the rims? Where is the pinchweld? Do you guys think they will fit? If not 33x10.50's, what about 32x11.50's?

 

I see some say yeah but other say no? What happens if they rub? just noise?

Ok, So they will fit with triming. On that pic did he just hammer that in or what? With 4.88 and 33x10.50's it will be the same as it is now? right. I would like to have a little more power so I was thinking of going with 32x11.50's. They make the procomp mudterrain's in that size. It's not to bad now but when I get on a long hill at about 60 or 70 then I can't hold 4th. Can I see some pics with 33's and 32's.

Usually you can just hammer the standing seam flat. Sometimes helps to trim some of the seam away to lessen the bulk of metal there. Rule of thumb: If the tires rub on something, hammer or trim it so it does not rub. Here is a '94 pickup w/ 33x12.50s and minimal lift:

on my buddys 90 we put 33/12.5/15 it only rubs because he has some step rail things on there. If it was a 10 it would fit fine. I have seen 33's on a stock 88 truck with a tbar crank and either nice springs in the rear or aal.
