trobleshoot oil pressure gauge

When i rebuilt my motor and put everything backtogether everything on the dash worked as it should.

about a week later when i had it tore down again to fix the pass side HG that didnt seal, and put it back together, the oil pressure gauge has refused to register on the dash dispite good oil pressure that has been verified by manual guage....

SO... were does one start to troubleshoot the gauge in the dash?

is it a varable resitance (negitive) gauge (meaning ground the wire spike H oil pressure?)

remember the sender is a 1 wire sender.... id like to avoid swaping out senders as id like to figure out what the problem is before i just randomly start doing crap.

(have i mentioned i HATE electrical gremilins)

If I remember correctly, the oil gauge sender varies between 30 to 200 ohms. You can measure the sender resistance and it should be somewhere in that range (I forget which way it moves with pressure). Do this with the power off. Just measure the resistance from the center lead of the sender to ground.

You can also get a 100 ohm resistor (1/2watt) from Radio Shack and hook it to the sender lead and see if the gauge moves. Attach one side of the resistor to the sender lead and ground the other side.
