What tires for 3.91 gears?

Just bought a 2001 tacoma and from searching these forums discovered why I am getting such good gas mileage-3.91 gears.
A little dissapointed in the fact I cannot run the american racing 16" wheels I scored on ebay, but with the price of gas I cannot justify changing gears just to run bigger wheels.
All that said, what tires would you reccomend for a 4wd tacoma with 3.91 gears??

wheels would fit, but from what I have read here the larger wheel/tires would be a problem for the 3.91 gears.
just wondering if theres a middle ground, from the stock 225/75/15, that would not have a negative effect on the stock gears.

I run 275/75R16 tires on 16" wheels with 3.73 gears on my 01 4Runner, 3.4 V6 engine. It originally came with 225/75R15. The mileage didn't change all that much, I don't have exact numbers but just going by the distance between fill ups I would say less than 10% drop. I did lose some acceleration, but it wasn't as much as I thought it would be.

Are you sure you have 3.91 gears? I have a 2004 Tacoma with 3.91 gears and the stock tires were 265 70 16 on 16 inch rims. I currently run 265 75 16 tires with a 2.5 inch lift and I don't notice a power loss. If you do have 3.91 gears you are OK to use the 16 inch wheels

Thanks for the advice!

Yup, I think I do have the 3.91 gears. My axle code is B06A, from everything I can find it means 8", 3.91, 2 pinion. Wimpy eh? I do like the great gas mileage though.
pmbazus, do have the V6?

Use your 16 inch wheels and get some 265 70 16 tires. Much better.
