268 Cam for 22RE, did it do much for you?

I recently had a timing chain skip a couple teeth, which ruined the timing cover, etc. So based on all of the awesome help provided on this forum, I went through with replacing all of the parts myself and also decided to get a 268* RV cam from engnbldr since I had to take the head off anyway to verify the valves were OK (they were). So after getting it all back together and initially fighting with an idle surge, I think she is running good again.

Problem is, I can't really tell any difference with that new cam in there. About the only think I noticed is that it appears I had to adjust my timing and idle a bit to compensate for the different cam. Is the difference in the cam that subtile that you wouldn't really notice it much? The rest of the truck is pretty much stock, except for some 32.5" x 10" BFG's.

Did you expect a big gain?
It's a pretty small change, but you'd see it show up on a dyno.. It's provides slightly more usable power/torque where you need it - in the normal RPM range... Your torque is still going to drop massively after about 4-4.5k
Might ask Ted for dyno results or expections on that cam...

I didn't really know what to expect, but my instincts told me it wouldn't be much. I guess the real test will be on the freeway going up a hill. I hate having to downshift to stay with traffic, so I was hoping this would allow me to keep it in fifth.

it made a difference on my hybrid engine. something like a cam is going to be more benificially noticeable when it compliments a built motor.

on my 22RE it didn't make quite as big of a difference, but it helps a little and you can tell it's there when it's idling.
