has anyone made the attempt at making their own snorkel for a 22r. I have an 85 that i dont really care how it looks i just dont want to hydrolock the engine. I figure making a snorkel wouldn't be that difficult just wondering if anyone had tried.

 

question to you not to be "smart"are your diffs water prof.? what about your doors?

i love snorkels they are more for a look thig if you aint going through some deep water

 

probably do the breather mod and I have almost no electronics in my truck other then headlights and taillights I have no radio, no interior lights, so I think it will be at least some benefit to not have water in my engine. Which I have already had to take the air filter off because it got water in it.

 

a buddy of mine ran some metal flex duct to his carb from inside the cab on his bronco II ugly as ÅÅÅÅ but it worked.

 

I would think that a snorkel would help a lot even if you didn't submerge your truck up to the air intake point. Last time I was off roading i sucked in a little bit of water and it wasnt even above my bumpers, but it splashed up and got sucked in. So after having that expeirence I have been thinking of relocating the intake up closer to the firewall, as high up as possible with out being outside of the hood. Depending on how deep of water you are running through that may be an option if you didnt want to cut up body panels

 

If you make your own snorkel from pvc it is cheap. They sell different bends so you can route the tube fairly well. Or you can use a heat gun to do slight bends. I did mine for about $20 plus some silicone and a filter that i had. It took about 5 hrs to do. And about your differentials being waterproof you can extend the breather on the top of pumkin up into the engine bay (fr) and inside the rear cargo area (rear). I did that with fittings from home depot rubber hose at the auto part store fore under $20.

 

what lift are you running in those stock hangers and how much did it give you? thanks

i have 5" allcan springs and 2" shackles and yes i was thinking about changing the weak stock hangers. that pic is actually without the 2" shackles. But i don't think that will help the flex to much. I had a little to go in that pic but a slipping ebrake by myself didn't help.

 

is there any way you could post some pics of your snorkel/intake under the hood.

 

i have to take some pics. I have the snorkel tube going into the box and then also i put a fitting on the stock air in with a screw off cap so when i am in the water i block it up and normal driving it sucks from both. The hardest parts are cutting through fender and engine bay. I'll get pics thurs.

Are we talking carbs here? I'll be honest, I don't see my aircleaner as being sealed enough (to the carb top) to be considered water proof. Or am I underestimating that ONE wing nut in the center?

 

I was wondering also on the carb motor do you run the pipe off the oval metal on the breather?

What do you mean seal your doors? How is this done?

 

weld em shut, weld the gap between doors and body, seal up anything you can. have fun!





just kidding

 

just shut your engine off if the water gets too deep. It will fill up with water but youll have a lot better chance of getting it running again after your pulled out.
