Busted Windshield

Driving down the interstate in Houston the other day, a rig in front of me drove over a brick, busted it in half and sent one half straight at my passanger side of the windshield. I was doing about 75 mph at the time so I was ready to eat glass. The windshield actually held up and it sounded like it struck steel. So anyone know where I can get a new windshield? This thing is spreading in all directions now after driving it a bit.

call your insurance to see if they will cover it. some auto policies include free windshield replacement with no deductible / costs to you. if not just look up the yellow pages for auto glass repair. most are mobile and will replace it relatively priced.

if you want toyota glass go to a dealer.

good luck

Be careful, I have read horror stories.
Many glass shops do not know how to work on the FJ yet.
Part of the top of the window must be replaced too, I think it is the trim.

Many a shop has ripped off that part and ruined the roof.

If my window ever goes, I will have it done at the dealership.

The guy I got on it was referred to by the dealer service tech. He seems very knowledgable and reasonible and has done two other FJ's already. But, there are no windshileds currently available and are all on backorder. He said he might be able to get it within a month and that invoice of the glass alone was $1,100-1,200. He told me exactly but all I heard was insurance claim. ;-) The first one he did, it came in quick. The second one wasn't yet backordered and took a little over a month. This one he expects could take longer but he was going to do all he could to get it here quick. But yeah he did mention some trim or seal that needed to be replaced as well, and said to be real careful who you have do these as it is a bit different then your conventional windshield.

Now I'm going to have a busted windshield for my first posted pics... which I will get up very soon. I finally got my camera back!

OK... glass dude just called me back and he hunted one down, but it will cost my insurance another $95. So, this is going to cost me $500 for the deductable, but so be it. I'll have a new windsheild in a week or two instead of waiting for one to make it here from Japan.

i suggest everyone lookinto lower your glass deductible thru your insurance compnay, i have a zero deductible that only cost me less then $3 a month to have , and with these windsheilds being extremly fragile, yes i finally got my obligatory rock chip , it will be well worth it i nthe long run.

ill probably end up geting mine fixed at the beginning of every summer or two. no reason to replace it during the winter , i jsut get my rock chips fixed for free and deal with it until it gets too annoying.

PPG should have replacement windshields out any day. They already have most of the other glass for the FJ. I will keep watching their update page.
