Costco won't mount BFG KO2's on 15X6 Rims.

I want to mount BFG KO2 31X10.5R15's on the 15X6 Toyota steelies. Truck is a 1993 Pickup 4X4. Tried Costco but they say the tire isn't spec'd for that narrow of a rim and won't mount them. I've seen plenty of other trucks with that tire/rim combo. Where should I go to purchase/mount them? Plenty of independent tire shops here in Colorado Springs, do I just go to one of them? Someone said 4 Wheel Parts did theirs. Is that an option? Thanks!

Thanks to lawsuits causes such things.

Generally tires spec tires for rims within 4 inches of tire width.

Go to a different shop,

seems likes it gonna look like a balloon and you will have some very uneven tread ware
narrowests I would go with would be an 8" rim

There’s ways to overcome these issues, well not the balloon look. Using chalk line and tire temp method will get you to the correct tire pressure for the set up. I’m running “poorman beadlocks” 12.5” width tire on 8” wide rim. Have done it for multiple sets of tires with good wear pattern, I like to replace tires a little less than 1/2 tread, good wear pattern is crucial for resale.

First and second gen 4runners were commonly delivered new from the dealer with 10.50 31x 15's on factory 7" wide rims.

I run them on my aluminum SR5 rims today. They do not wear oddly or look as if the rim is too narrow.

I don't know about mounting them on sixes though.

I get that, I am running 35x12.50's on a 8" rim for the same reason. It is fine down to a 33" tall tire, -- . 31 x10.50's on a 6" rim doesn't have a lot of sidewall, even running 28 PSI it seems like it would look like a donut

Thanks for all the replies. I tried buying the same tire at 4 Wheel Parts to see if they would mount them. They were sold out across the country and stated that BFG's were difficult to come by due to a recent factory shut down. I went back to Costco and bought the set I had ordered outright (without mounting). I'll bring the rims and the tires to a local tire shop next week and have them mount them up. I'm not too worried about ballooning. I'll check wear and rotate often.

Tires mounted and looks good.

Had the tires mounted at my local tire shop. They didn't blink an eye when I brought in both the rims and the rubber and just asked them to mount, balance and install. IMO, the 31X10.5R15 BFG KO2's with 15X6 steelies look good on the truck. Better than the original, tarnished alloy 15X7 rims. There's minimal bulge or ballooning of the sidewalls and they handle fine on the road. I'll keep an eye on uneven wear and adjust pressure or rotate as necessary. Thanks to all for the assist!

Old rims (15X7)

New rims (15X6)

Post sandblasting and powder coating.

Thanks! I pulled the center caps on the rear tires. Looks better. The asymmetric look was bugging me.

I hear ya. Mine fell off somewhere on my way to work. It was an hour's drive on the highway, so who knows where they could be. I just never bothered finding replacements

I know it's been 2 years but in case anyone else runs into this, I've had quite a few sets installed at Costco with no problem, 31x10.5 on 6" wheels, 35x12.5 on 7.5" wheels etc. I just bring in the wheels and tell them it's for a farm vehicle, no questions asked ever. I do buy the tires through Costco, which I'm sure helps!

Im wondering if there is some information out there what size tires you can fit an what size rims.
It must come from the manufacturers since they may be doing their testing on differenz rubber-rim combos.
I was digging through the BFG website lately to figure out what combo woult be legal but it seems there is nothing out there.

I had seen it in print at a Firestone dealer years ago so I knew it existed
