Smile Excellent price on a 3vze rebuilt!

Hey I saw your post, I am in the same position as you, 95 4Runner w/thrown rod. Anyway, I have been looking with no luck for an engine. What I have found is that the local salvage yards want Waaaayyy too much, about the price of a rebuilt engine and with 100,000+ miles and the local autoparts stores, checkers and autozone are in the buy another 4Runner and keep the change range.

After hours of searching for hours, I came accross a place called amazon-racing.com., and NO I do not work for them. I worked out an awsome deal on a completely rebuilt shortblock and also rebuilt heads, with NO core charge and only $250.00 shipping! This guy is into OEM, not topline or rock stuff and definetely not the China made stuff, so I figure he might know quality. I ordered it and should get it next week. My block has a hole in it about the size of a pea, but that's all it takes, so rebuilding was out of the question. Amazon-Racing.com also sells on ebay so you can read about the engine and the parts he uses.

I read several posts about thrown rods, and am starting to belive that this is another weak spot in an already questionable engine from Toyota, but I also read many posts about high mileage happy owners too. An engine swap is really way too time consuming as I have several other projects right now. It's too bad that a swap requires the computer and harness, along with a laundry list of parts, not to mention what the MVD may do when they find out about the swap...too many variables.

So, I decided to just put in a rebuilt 3vze. Before I knew about the block, I even priced a rebuild doing the teardown and assembly myself using one of those ebay complete rebuild kits. I didn't like the idea of going aftermarket, although I have used topline before...not too bad, but not Toyota quality either, and when I worked out the cost including machine work, I came in around $1200-1700. Well, amazon-racing.com sells the block for $799 +$160 and the heads for $499+$95, this is a flat rate shipping anywhere in the US and NO CORE.

I hope this info helps, I also hope that the stuff is as good as it sounds, when it comes in. Good luck with your yota!

Excellent info and good luck with your project -- sounds very reasonable
But i'm needing it for a truck that isn't worth $1200.00 If it were a nice daily driver I would be all over it, but I just need something to throw in there and get it back on the road --- thanks for the post

3yotys -- I'd like to thank you also, but I was lookin' for something local (couple hours drive) But there is a pretty big demand for a good 3.0 -- so why don't you post it for sale ?

I'll have to talk to my bro-in-law, who has it. He ran off the road and trashed the front end and flipped it over damaging the cab roof. He said it was running fine and was probably going to sell it last we talked. I have no idea how many miles the engine has on it. It's in a T100.

If he still has it, I doubt he will take the engine out. He may be trying to sell it whole-not sure. I will ask.
