Win XP Home firewall question

My wife has a laptop and I was wondering how to check if her cheap-a$$ firewall is working that came with the system? You know the built in one... thanks!!!

Greetings,
If you on are on a home network you can get a copy of NMAP for windows or if you run Linux, NMAP for linux. Run a scan against the IP address of your wifes Laptop, it will reveal all the open ports.
There are alot of free security scanners on the WEB, if you don't like NMAP, do a google search and grab one.

I use this site to test my machine... https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2. A lot of tech guys I know recommend it.

But for some reason or the other, every time I test, it shows me as completely invisible on all ports except ident, which is just closed. I can't figure out how to make that port invisible also, if it's supposed to be.

Oh yeah, don't bother fooling with the old firewall that came with XP. It's a pain to configure.

Try Sygate... http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/14/3/14-3-10.shtml

Greetings,
GRC is really cool and does a good job also. NMAP is if you like to check things yourself.
