PC crashed big time

Cory, I just had a similar thing happen to me, it was asking for my password, and nothing worked. I have two partitions, and I used a boot Cd similar to the link below, and it allowed me to access my C: drive, and back up my files to my D: drive. As long as you have "view hidden files and folders" selected in your folder options, you should be able to find and backup your .pst file, and save your email. I know...too little too late. This reminds me to backup again, since I just re-installed everything. I also think things work better if you install XP, then do SP2, then reinstall all of your stuff. I need to do the tip above, keep all of my data files on my D: drive, so I can wipe C: without losing anything.

If you have any spare room this might work.
Could you boot from a disk that can partition, like partition magic, then make a tinny partition that you can install windows in. boot it up and have all your files.... I did that a while back ago.

Just an update...
Format is good.
Everyone should format at least once a year or so.
I have just about everything back on except for some games I am currently not playing.
Using Windows Media Player 10, and I think I like it better than version 9.
PC is soooooooo much faster, and boot up & shutdowns are insanely fast now.
I run all 3 of my spyware killer apps on Thursday, and defrag with Disk Keeper Pro version 8 which is better than XPs defragger also Thursday evening.
This way the PC is freshly tuned each week for a grand time on the weekends.
I was very lucky to retrieve all of my files from following the suggestion here to install XP in a different folder than the original XP.
PC is currently backed up via my network to my older PC.
Will be getting another internal hard drive in the future for backup purposes only.

SP2 is the only way to go
I have no problems with it at all.
I had it on before the format also.
The only thing I do not like about SP1 and SP2 if you jump right to it is you loose JAVA over the whole Sun/Microsoft ordeal.
My website will not function as in my table of contents not working unless either MS's Virtual JAVA Machine is installed, or Sun's JAVA is installed.
That is why I have a scrolling text message on my home page at the top stating that users need to have JAVA installed in order to use my website.
Sad thing is Firefox does not work with my website at all.
Just fired it up and the scrolling text does not work, and my table of contents does not show up either.
This is why I still think IE is the superior browser.
Maybe there is a setting in Firefox to turn on JAVA?
Have not really looked at it that much.
Under Web Features in the ops for Firefox I have JAVA and JAVA script turned on.
Why is it not working then?

I just opened FireFox (v.0.9.3) and went to your site. It works fine, scrolling, motion, everything I tried worked. Does the java logo show in the task bar by the clock when you open FF? Maybe it's not opening for some reason. Also, your sig is present only on your first post in this thread and the one post-format, but is missing on all the rest including your latest if that's a clue?

I only post my sig once in a thread most of the time.
I get no java logo by my clock when I fire up Firefox.
Is there a setting?
I will check later, going out to pick up the new Starwars Battlefront PC game.

Sounds like our settings are the same. I also have everything checked under Java Advanced settings. Curious the Java icon is missing from your System Tray though. Maybe remove and reinstall FF and Java?

I never installed java on this machine, only the MS Virtual Machine one.
If I remember right, there is a setting somewhere to turn on the console, but I forget where.
There is also a setting somewhere where you can pick you java as in which one to run on the machine.
XP has so many settings one can get very lost when trying to find stuff.
Also I notice with Firefox in the upper right corner it tells me there is a critical update to download.
I click on it to get it, and it will not connect to their server.
I think this browser still needs an awefull lot of work done to it.

Bob, I took off Firefix and put it back on again, no go.
Still can not view my TOC on my site.
Where did you get your version of java?
Here,

I DL'd it from my link, and now my page works with Firefox.
However.....
the Firefox bug is still there as when you refresh my website, some of the java buttons in my table of contents do not show up.
Midiwall had mentioned a few months back that this is a known bug and will be fixed later, just like the bug that still shows when you surf here with Firefox as always going back to the top of the page when you hit the back button in "View new posts" when you were scrolled down half way.
Now why oh why could not Firefox use Microsoft's Virtual Machine for its java?
