Need some computer help

I was wondering if there is anyway to back up and put Windows applications on a different computer?

I'm in Iraq right now and am probably going to have to send my laptop back to the states bacuse of some problems with it. It's all under warrantee from Best Buy, which I strongly recomend their extended waratee on just about everything, and I am worried they're going to replace my laptop. I have a lot of applications, mainly AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Pro and a few other applications that I use daily or pretty close. I don't know where all these disks are at home and I don't want to rely on my wife to find them all.

I would love if there was a way to make it where I can install these programs when my computer comes back or mirror the hard drive so I can just set everything back like it was. I would hate to loose these applications for the next year until I can get home and dig through boxes and find them if they haven't been lost in all the moving.

Programs such as Nortons Ghost can backup and replicate the drive for you. You cant just copy programs from one harddrive to another, but making a disk image would make an exact replica of your current drive. You will need a new harddrive, presumably from the new laptop, and the disk image software. I dont know the exact details of how to do it, but that is the direction that you would want to be moving in.

good luck with that, and good luck out there

Thanks. I have a 500gb external right now and only about 75gb on my 100gb hard drive. That what I was planning to use to store all my information. I already have all my documents and important stuff like that saved. I would just like a few applications to be able to work.

Norton Ghost would prolly be your best bet. Easy to use, and it's quick. There a couple of other's, but that's what I use.
