Make it stop (viruses)

Someone on the forum here is badly infected with the W32/Netsky.P@mm virus.

I am getting about 100 or more emails daily to my yotatech address.
Fortunately the server strips the virus out before it can get to me.

Someone here has me in their address book, and they are infecting other users as well, and spoofing the return email address, and sending them to everyone in their address book.

I know some here don't run antivirus software as I have seen it mentioned in posts.
Please either update your old DAT files which should be done several times a week if checking manually, or download a free tool to remove certain viruses on your PC.

Mcafee Stinger is free, and it will remove this virus and others.

I have received about 30 today from the time I turned on my PC at 2 am until I got home about 1:45 PM.

Someone is badly infected and broadcasting this virus to many people.
There is no reason to not keep your DAT files up to date and be virus free.

Since posting the above post a few hours ago, I received 10 more.
All from the same IP.

The perps PC is bad mojo I tell ya.
Poor sap doesn't even know he's infected and his PC has been taken over as a virus spammer.

Just think...if he had 50 people in his address book besides me, the same virus is going out to all of them too.
Now if one of them opens up the message without having virus software, they too will be infected, and the virus will go out to all in their address book too.

It's a dang shame folk's don't take better care of their PCs.

Your .dat file is what your anti-virus software reads when it scans for virii.
DAT files are always changing, so it's important to keep them up to date for the best possible virus prevention/protection.

DAT files are updated by the virus scanner makers weekly, sometimes 3 times a week.

If you don't update them, your anti virus software is useless.
It can't detect the new viri that comes out all the time.

I update mine manually so the PC doesn't slow down by automatic updates.

I'll second that. People have a responsibility to patch and protect their systems. When they don't, the entire network is affected.

This link doesn't work. I ran Corey's and came up with nothing. I'll admit to not keeping up on virus updates. I do alot of my surfing from in a corporate network that takes care of all that stuff so I get in a bad habit of not doing it at home.
What would the W32 virus do? My home computer has been force quiting off of this site for a few days now on certain threads.

It will let you know and automatically clean it for you.
I would recommend running more than just Stinger, as Stinger is only set up to scan for 41 virii.

If you have spyware, search on the forum here for spyware.
There are links in there to get free software.

Once of the best is Spybot Seach and Destroy, and they just updated it to version 1.3.

If you have 1.2, it won't update to that one.
You must DL the new one.

Go to cnet.com and get it, or go to Spybot's website.

Corey, are you still getting the email viruses since I scanned mine. Am I the only one that had it?

I only got 3 since coming home from work.
That was from between 3 am this morning, to 4 PM tonight.

I normally get around 20 to 40 in that time frame, so you may have been one of the culprits

Do you have me in your address book?
If so, your PC was one that was sending them out to me.

Someone else out there is infected still.

No, I don't have any members from this forum in any address books. I PM'd jimrockford one time, but didn't put anyone 's address in a book. So did I get it from someone who put me in their address book?

Well I'm glad you posted this thread. I was totally unaware of this working on my comp. Sorry if I gave anyone else any problems for being "that poor sap".
