Mac help, files gone

Not me, my X.
My youngest son told me his mom fired up her Mac laptop and all the files are gone.

The OS is still there, but she lost everything else.
Macs are pretty much virus free right?

I wonder how this happened.
Anyway she can check to see if they are still there but hidden some how?

What OS?

Did she change anything recently?

She should be able to navigate in Finder to the directory where her files were stored. If they're not there... I don't know. Never heard of files on a Mac just disappearing.

try a search in finder for some recent files. i've never lost any files on osx, just accidentally misplaced em! did she delete & emty trash by mistake? are the apps still there? also try running disk utility...

macs are generally virus free coz its such a smaller share of market. plus their OS is alot more stable and harder to break into. doesnt mean theyre not out there..its just a drop in the water compared to the rest of the windoze world. i bought this used DP G4 mac a few years ago..and not a single problem.

there are data/drive recovery options available at a cost also...

Corey...You ever find out any more? There were/are a couple of worms/viruses that appeared, but the user really had to make a blunder and install them. Find out what system she's using and PM me.
