A little insider info - Another Comcast Speed Hike this year....

This might be old news but I just talked to one of the IT heads at Comcast yesterday (was helping them do the changover on a local ISP they just bought out that I used to help manage), and he said that they have another speed jump scheduled for the not so distant future. Sorry no exact numbers or dates yet. But he sounded pretty confident about it being before the end of the year.

It sounds like they area really trying to put emphasis on upload speeds in their R&D department.

Two speed hikes in one year ain't bad.

I'm all for it if they actually do deliver. Seems more like a marketing gimmick to me. Yeah, the speed test sites will show a higher rate, but what good will that do if you can still only manage a 400kbps download from most sites?

That IS good...

OT: What does Comcast cost up there? Its $56 here for their 4mb plan, $10 more for 6mb.

That would be nice, but I want them to deliver on the 4Mbps download here. I'm getting 1.6Mbps max, and that's straight to comcast! Most sites I manage 70KBps, when I should be getting 300+ easy. I had the Comcast guy out, he seemed fine with the 1.6Mbps. He told me that places like DSL Reports are not a good indicator of speed because I have to go over the internet to get the speeds. Um, everything I do online I go through the internet, so it should be a pretty accurate indicator. He told me to wait a month and things should be better. He said they changed to a new line so they could network all 22 million comcast subscribers. Nothing against other subscribers, but I could care less if I was networked to them. I just want the 4Mbps speeds they promise.
