I think I'll buy a used Mac (probably a G4) and play with it for a while. If it does what I need it to do (Photoshop, music, website stuff), then I'll probably save up and buy a G5 or G6 when they come out. Hopefully I won't have to replace a harddrive every 3 months.

If you create a PowerPoint presentation on Mac, can you still show it on Windows? Or does it create a different file type?

All files saved with Office for Mac use the same file extensions as the Windows version of Office. I've never had problems making something with Office on the Mac and then someone opening it with Windows.

Shh..But I had a "leaked" copy of the 10.4 "Tiger" Developer Preview..There's quite a few new features. Is it better? Eh, I can't say for sure. Is it COOL? YES!

Used iMac G4's are pretty cheap on ebay, too. The eMac is a BIG machine, I don't like it.

I heard Photoshop is actually going to utilize Mac's dual processors so things will be blazing. Lots of great innovations coming, I think.

The new iMac's are a great deal. 17" or 20" flatscreen (that IS the whole computer!) for under $2K.. I think they start around $1300.

Another mac addic!

Ive got an old Powerbook G4 15" 500mhz and I haven't done a clean format since I got the thing 4 years ago. Still stable as anything and can even run photoshop. A little slow at times, but it has alot to do with the processor temp. This thing cooks! I just got my mom a iMacG5 and it is one SLICK machine. Super quiet, sexy and at the same time powerful. She is no computer person and she made the switch quite easily. On the PC she could check email and get on the net and that was about it. Now shes FINALLY using her digital camera and burning cds! She is having so much fun with it she decided to get one for her dad for christmas (really not a compter person). I'm a video editor so my theory is to go hard or go home and then just keep the thing for a few years instead of getting an ok one and then you have to keep dumping money into it to keep it "up to date". Thats just my theory though. I also use mine to edit movies and when you have hours of rendering time... every mhz counts

I go to art school where most everyone except for architecture students are on Macs, anything visual or in music is all done on the mac. The only thing about them is that they are designed to be tools, so you don't get all kinds of bundled software (word) etc. Which to some is a burden since they alaready cost more, but to me SO much better. Whenever one of my friends gets a PC I always spend the first day erasing crap that they don't need.

The best thing about the mac though is it just works! External cd burner? Plug and play. Wireless internet? two clicks away. Digital camera? Automaticly downloads and has endless options right there. Go get one, you will happy you did!

Luckily, you can sell your old software. Plus, if you're a student, there are great discounts out there. OR...you can just..well, nevermind.
