Laptops

I am thinking about buying a laptop due to my traveling. Where is the best place to go to get one? Online? Store?

I went to MicroCenter in CO, but any place is good. Just do a lot of research and know what you want. Do you want Vista, XP or do you want an Apple Computer. Apples are quite a bit more expensive.

I have a 17'' laptop with Vista, 2 GIGs of RAM, 140 GIG harddrive and I only paid 1000 total. That includes the 2 year warranty.

If you are looking for mobile, I would stick to a 15'' screen. The 17 is nice but a bit much to carry around with you all the time.

Here is my criteria for a laptop:

1. I have heard bad things with Vista, so I am probably stick with XP pro.

2. Must be 17" monitor (I use a 22" widescreen monitor at home).

3. Multi-media and gaming.

Check out my new laptop, the Dell Inspiron 1720.
http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs

Just got it over the Christmas break.
17" screen, Vista (Vista is not the best for gaming, XP Pro is) 2 GB RAM, Intel Duo Core 2 GHz, built in Wi-Fi, lots more.
Got it for a tad under $1.5K.

You can get better vid cards with it, but since I am not doing hardcore gaming (built a super PC for that also over the Christmas break) the Nvidia 8400 card is good enough.

The 17" screen looks a little small compared to the 22" screen to the far left.

So far I am really digging the laptop.

Vista is good as long as you use programs made for vista. I don't game, so I can't speak for that. People have problems when they try and use programs made for XP on their vista computer.

I HIGHLY recommend an Alienware laptop. if you can afford a high end one, you will never be un-satisfied with it's performance, looks, security, memory & space.
