laptop screen troubleshooting help

ok so i have a 2008 dell inspiron 1525 (i know its old, im not buying a new one plus i got it extremely cheap) any the problem ive been having is that when i put the laptop to sleep when i go to wake it up the screen is really dim (i can still adjust the screen brightness with the keys but its still dark even on its brightest setting) the problem is solved if at the login screen i switch user, sign back in, and go on with my day but its just a inconvenience but not a huge deal and if anybody could help me fix it that would be nice
(ps ive only changed one setting on the laptop in the last month and it had to do with this game that my step sister hooked me on if that matters at all)

go into the bios and change the brightness settings,on battery and on ac adapter. See if this helps. If not, keep it out of sleep mode.
