home made PC cold air intake - epic win!
lol, it's late, and I'm EXTREMELY bored...
don't mind the pokadot curtains... their temporary... I just moved into the room last week, and they'll be getting replaced soon
and for proof in the pudd'n, my idle temp dropped from 28~30 C, to 23~24 C that's like 73 degrees F, or basically room temperature!
This is with an i7 920 quad core at stock clock (2.66ghz), and using the stock Intel heat sink and fan!
I need a life...

Back when i had a crappy case, i took a fan, made a shroud with a garbage back and some cardboard, and blew air directly into the side of my case.
it was ghetto.

but that's not rigged; that'll be done right, with some good aftermarket parts
and it probably wont be 22"s; more than likely some 20" Roush wheels that they put on the Roush F150s
thank you sir! I think...
where's you new guitar playing rabbit smiley?
pshhh, don't be jealous; you only payed a fraction of what I paid for this processor I bought it along with all the other parts to put this computer together about 2 months after they release the i7 cores... I think the processor alone was almost $400... which is sad when you consider I bought my HP G71 laptop brand new a year later for $400, LOL

well sense the voltage on a nehalem is so low on idle is the first place its not surprising, plus it is not that big of a deal any way sense a nehalem has a thermal thresh hold or105C*.
Put some load on that thing and you will see the temp increase quick as it powers up the cores. A good test for that is compress a large file with winrar.
Any way water is the real way to go.

oh yeah I'd definitely go liquid if I needed too it stays surprising cool, even under a load. I converted a 2 hour movie file with it last night which held the total usage at about 90% the entire time, it it only got to about 42~43 the entire time, as apposed to the 50+ it use to go to before!
I set the AC unit to 60 last night (I like to sleep cold ), and this morning with I got up, it was idling at 18 C
what GPUs are you doubled up with there?

ATI 4870
I've been an nVidia guy all my life, and someone told me about the 4870 and how it was a good bang for the buck, so I tried it out...
Works good, but I've already had to replace it once because the memory crapped out on the first one
I just replaced it with another 4870; the first one was an MSI, this new one's an XFX
It's still more than I need, but if I ever do need to upgrade, I'm going back to nVidia, and I'll probably run SLI

Sweet. I just got back from PAX Prime, where we showed off NVIDIA Surround (2560x4800), 3D Vision Surround, and 4 way SLI....people love it!
I also got to play Duke Nukem Forever (yes - it's really coming this time), and NBA Jam for Wii (coming out October 5th - so much fun!).
Ping me when you next upgrade and I'll see if I can give you the scoop on any offers coming down the pipe
Phil
