Hella DE fog/driving lights

I've read up on all of the sheilds for the hellas...they look good. However, is there a problem with just closing the hole in the rubber encasement part? I too have had corrosion issues, but I really don't understand why there would be a need to have lights "breathe". The originals (from the factory) didn't have a hole for air.

I plugged mine; do any of you see a problem with this solution???

Thanks.
