bestbuy has 20% off accessories til today if you order online. So i ended up with the xbox live starter kit for $55 plus tax and instore pickup. Which aint bad considering its $50/year for live alone.

You betcha'!

I also need to get 5.1 running, so I have to wait until I get home to see if I have TOSLink inputs versus S/PDIF. I don't think I do... The point being that I want to place just one order for toys. I found an A/V box that'll gimme S/PDIF if I need it.

NOTE: if you haven't read the reviews, the cable from the FRAG box is short (like 12") so you'll want to get an extender cable as well!

hehe, my keyboard and mouse are wireless.

I use the Xbox High Definition AV Pack but I have one of the first ones that have the fiber optic audio cable. it has the three component cables for the video and then the fiber optic one for the digital audio signal. I hook it up to my 61" Sony rear prof big screen and my Sony str-de985 receiver. but since I'm not in Houston I have it all hooked up to my 27" sony trinitron tv and the audio in stereo to the tv via the regular yellow, white and red rca's. I can't wait to finally get all my stuff up here and appreciate the 5.1 again and the 61" video, hehe. Since I'm a mechanical engineer at the plant where the PRT's for my TV are made, I'm not worried about burning the tubes in by playing games since I can replace them free, haha.

here's what the end of my cable looks like, I actually think it's a Monster cable but I don't believe Monster makes them anymore:

Lookie what I just tripped over!

It's a hack for the A/V box to get you S/PDIF out!

YEAH BABY!

I just reread and understood what you were thinking. I should clarify that I have no router right now, I gave it to my mom 4 months ago. so just adding a hub won't work. I have to go and get a router to handle the dhcp. so the ones I always buy are the Linksys wireless with 4 port hub built in so I can have no cable going to laptop and xbox and have a cable to my desktops to get 100m through the hard lines. I just wanted to clarify because it sounded like you though I was "adding another" router to my network rather than "adding one" to my network that doesn't have one which is what I'm doing.

Ahhh yes! Yeup, I thought you were gonna piggy-back two routers.

n/m then, you have it under control! Carry On!

So why all that hassle for 5.1?

I use the componet cables with fiber optics for the 5.1.

Nope, you can't. The Live subscription is tied to the MAC address in your box. I dunno how support is, but they MIGHT be able to do something.
