I have had good luck in the past with this brand on other monitors (crt) and my father in law has a 17" viewsonic lcd that has been working great for a couple of years.

I'd say STOP right now. It is a nice monitor, 5ms is quite decent, contrast ratio is fine too, but, VGA only? A DVI connection would make such a difference in quality, even with the cheapest card, and it's a bit of a pity, since this particular model doesn't support it.

Also, look into Viewsonic's dead pixel policy. A lot of companies say something like 9 or more, for instance, imagine having 8 dead pixels and not being able to return it. I don't recall who exactly, but I was on neweggg just a couple of days ago and someone out there does offer a no-dead-pixel policy.

I actually considered buying that one not too long ago Bob. I held off because it had no DVI connection. Plus, my current monitor is still kicking.

I have heard good things about Viewsonic, but never owned one.

But for $158.00 after the rebate, that is not bad at all. Even if it is does just have a VGA hook-up.

Sounds like it would work well for what you plan to do. The price is right.

Wides screen is the way to go, but DVI is a must!! imho

DVI 5ms 1000:1c/r and no dead pixels. Replace for any within 30days if i recall.

Viewsonic, KDS, NEC, Samsung are the top brands I would buy.

Samsung is the best LCD out there right now, imho.

I got this one a year and a half ago and love it.

DVI doesnt make that big of a diffrence. I have my computer hooked up through VGA and DVI on my Dell 2005FPW and i can switch between the two. I dont notice any huge diffrences...esp. if im not looking at pictures..if the pc is just for regular use than vga is fine.

I recently bought a ViewSonic 20.1" VX2035wm. AWESOME monitor with no dead pixels.

I bought a Hanns.G 19" widescreen 5ms 700:1 contrast ratio that is AMAZING... I paid a little less than 200 bucks for it. Now they're only 180 on newegg. I love the thing. It has dvi and dsub connections... as well as a couple speakers. I don't even use them though, they sound horrible. The picture quality is incredible, it has a small frame, it's built well and it looks great! Oh, it's the Hanns.G HW191DPB. It's a very sweet monitor for the price. Ahhh... no dead pixels on mine either.
