Firefox popup tabs?

I thought Firefox was suppose to be pretty safe.
I have been trying it out a little more as of late.

I do have popup blocking enabled, and have not seen any.
I do not get any either hardly at all with IE.

Just a few minutes ago I was closing Firefox and a message came up asking me if I wanted to close down both tabs.
Both tabs, I did not know I had a 2nd one running.
I checked it and it was an ad for breast enlargments.

I guess they think I need to increase my bust size.
Here is a pic (yes, it is work safe)

You can see the tab up there too.
Anyone else getting these tabs added to your toolbar up there?

I don't have those tabs.
Here's some info about my PC:

Windows XP Pro SP 2
Firefox version 1.5.0.3
Adblock V5 d3

What I have noticed is an increase in ads now seen on web pages.
Adblock is a very good ad blocker but, it needs to be tweaked.

Breast enlargement ... for under 2,500 dollars. Geez, I am thinking a used 4 runner would by a much better buy. That's me and the only silicon I want to touch is inside my computer or used as foot padding in shoes (lol).

Those tabs are a standard firefox feature. Rather than opening a whole new instance of firefox, you just make a tab, it keeps your taskbar clean having only one window and its easy to navigate. that popup wa just one that seeped through and it made a tab rather than a window. completely normal. no pop up blocking is perfect

I guess they can not determine the sex of the user.

Get the extension for blocking scripts, I'm not sure if that'll help, but I've gotten no pop-ups since I installed that.

Corey, may I ask why you have a picture of a vacuum as your avatar?
[/offtopic]

I haven't gotten breast implant pop ups, especially while surfing Yotatech, but I have had others, but 99% of the time, they get blocked. Firefox and Avant are my top favorite ones.

Just to be clear on semantics, the popup showed up in a "tab", not on the "toolbar". I'm being a bit anal, but for something to add an icon to the toolbar would be an ugly security hole.

Anyway!

Any browser may let some stuff through, especially when it comes to people being creative with scripts.

You'll want to get a couple of extensions for FF... There are a lot of awesome ones, but two core things will be:Installing those will squish the stuff that may otherwise get through.

More are here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions.php?app=firefox

Also, from within FF, check Tools | Options | Content.

Look at the check boxes for "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript". Next to the latter is "Advanced". You'll want to set those options to how it makes sense for you.

Thanks Mark, I unchecked all that were in the advanced area.
A few were checked, and I do not think that was good.

I will install the add ons later.

Cool... you may find that some sites don't work "right" with JavaScript crippled from opening windows. For example, the my "dirt" pages on my site use JS to open a "big" version of the pic in a window). FF won't let you define those JS attributes on a per/site basis, and that's where something like AdBlock will shine.

You'll need to play with the options in order to get comfy with the results.
