Dot in middle of screen appers, locks up PC
Now before you say virus or spyware, I am clean.
I run AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy, and SpySweeper almost daily.
I will be surfing or typing, and the PC will lock up and make the "ding" wav file play when I try to click the mouse.
I have zero access to the PC when the dot is in the middle of the screen.
Here is a screen capture, at least the Prt Scr function still works when the happens.
The PC can stay frozen anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds.
This has been going on for over a month.
I wonder if it could be SpySweepers monitoring system that does this, or something else.
Now when I am watching back a movie/TV show I recorded on the PC, the recording does not freeze up at all, it keeps playing.
It only affects if you are trying to use the mouse to access a button or click an URL on a webpage or in a document.
Anyone see the likings of this before?

Shut down any virus monitoring software you have running as well as any spyware monitoring software and see if it still repro's.
Confirm that you have the latest video driver for your system and that it correctly matches the hardware.

I shut down two apps that are connected to Creative for the audio card, and also two apps that monitor the HP printer.
I know HP has bloated software Rob, and just doing those few apps via the Windows Task Manager seems to have solved it.
I wonder if one of the apps (more than likely HP) is polling info, and that locks it up.
I can shut off the unneeded Creative stuff later via MS Config and then monitor it.
Will shut off one of the HP things too, the one that checks for updates.
It has to be one of those.
Oh, also shut down MS's View Point, that runs all the time too, although I am not exactly sure what is does.
I Googled it before in the past.
I think it belongs to MS.
Since shutting down those few apps, it has not done it since.
