from the looks of it.
I think he's talking about the small white square in the middle of the pic:

What you're talking about is that he has a 16:9 image on a 4:3 screen.

I'd really like him to try this:

Minimize everything on the desktop. Fire up ProcessExplorer, and note the "gunsight" icon next to the binoculars. Click and DRAG that icon over the top of the white box on your desktop. It should highlight it. Let go of the mouse button and ProcExp should pop back as the front window.

The line that's highlighted in ProcExp is the process that owns the window.

Posting that info here should be fairly entertaining.

ITS GONE! I tried the ProcessExplorer and followed your instructions. When it came up, it was highlighted on "BackWeb-137903.exe". Which apears to be a HP update. I just used the "kill Process" option in ProcessExplorer and it did the trick. Thanks everybody for your input.

Sorry it took so long to get back on this, I haven't had much time to mess around with it.

Hmmm...

Sounds to me like it's a marketing tool. I'd kill it. It's just sitting there eating resources and obviously it's a piece of crap coding since it's exposing itself.

cool, glad you were able to get rid of it, FYI every HP scanner and printer and other software has installed a TON of garbage... you should be able to get rid of it...

tee-hee. Dude... you don't WANT to know all the crap that's probably on your machine.

It's "fun" for me to wander through a friend's box after I haven't seen her for a while (HI SHANNON!). The amount of stuff that collects on a machine just from normal wandering is insane these days.

_ALL_ of the tools at SysInternals are incredible. Even the gag ones are cool (there's a screen saver that does a GREAT emulation of a crash).

For what you're into right now, try these: (text copied from SysInternals website)
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
See what programs are configured to startup automatically when your system boots and you login.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...tRevealer.html
Scan your system for rootkit-based malware

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html
This monitoring tool lets you see all file system activity in real-time.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html
This monitoring tool lets you see all Registry activity in real-time.
That should be enough to keep you up at night.

You're actually in a lot better spot now that The Boy has his own. All the tools are on that machine, but I think The Boy was wandering to places and downloading stuff that loved to sit in nooks and crannys.

We'll take a look from a different view point the next time I'm up there.
