I dropped down to 3 fps in some of the tests.

They say the new ATI X800 is twice as fast as the previous 9800 XT which was the king of the hill.

As long as you only dropped down during the CPU tests you are fine.

DAMN!!!.......new ATI sounds sweet!

My new laptop spanked my desktop on 3Dmark 2003:
Desktop: 1050
Laptop: 3400

Guess which one I'll be gaming on...

I love this game, but it is a drain on the system. I am trying the 3d mark software but i have a 1.8ghz 1 gig ram and 256 apg 3d card and i can just run medium quality on this game. I will update with my score and some of my own screen shots in a bit

I'll be adding a GB of RAM to my 512 sometime.
That will help too.

For gaming I would add in the following order:
1) Upgrade video card
2) upgrade processor
3) Increase RAM

My ATI 9600 Pro is pretty good, as I use to run an Asus NVIDIA FX5200.
The FX card was good in every game, but this ATI one is way better.

I run an 800 FSB 2.4, but often overclock it to 2.88 and 3.20 with no problems.

So far there is not a game that I have loaded that won't play at 1024x768 with all the glitter turned on.
Even Halo runs good on it.

For a complete rundown on my specs, see my website, then the PC page.

I only have a laptop, so I'll probably have to find a joystick for Doom3. I haven't boughten it yet (other priorities before I get it). This will be the first game I've purchased in like 5 years and only because I loved the first and second doom.

Any suggestions on a good joystick or do you all play with the keyboard? Doom 1 and 2; I played with the key board.

Mohamed, I have never heard of using a 'stick to play a first person shooter.
Games like the original Doom, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Doom 3 work best using the arrow keys (or the AWSD keys) for your movement, and the mouse for turning and your fire buttons.
The middle scroll wheel for switching weaponry, and pushing the scroll wheel as a button for zoom with sniper weaponry.

Just get a mouse for your laptop, and you will be good to go if it meets the specs.

No Doom for me

http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/doom3_error.jpg

Just installed it, and it is giving me the emulation error message as seen above

I have Nero 6 on the PC, and I do not think I have any emulation software.
I do not know how to fix this.

Picked up the game over at Drew's today, and from I saw multiplayer sucks if you wanna fake host a game.
You can not insert bots in the game like you can with Quake 3 and UT, and UT 2004.

I enjoy making my own games by adding bots to them, and having people join in sometimes.

PS, Google has info on the error, time for me to read.

Found it!
http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...readid=1366511

People who are getting it from "stealing" it from Warrez sites do not have the problem as the Warrez dudes fix it for the people who do not believe in paying for games.

Legit people like me who do PAY for it are having the problem.
It seems in the forum above if you have CD Clone installed which I do by the way, are having this problem.

It is no business for ID Software to know what is on my PC.
I use CD Clone for backing up legit copies of music CDs since they can and will get scratched.
It won't copy new games anyways.

The guy above got it fixed, and it is on page 2.
He did indeed have CD Clone installed.

I am going to uninstall Clone CD and I will report back here in a bit.

It is working

The game works great now, but I had to uninstall my Clone CD program.
Again, shame shame on ID Software for making people do this.

I'm sure there will be a work around for this later.

Game looks very good at 1024x768, and running high quality.
I did turn shadows off, but left the special effects and bump mapping on.
If you turn off bump mapping, the details do not look as good.

It looks to be a very good single player game which my 17 year old will enjoy, but I do not think I would recommend this for multiplayer.
The most you can have in a game is 4 people, for either deathmatch or team deathmatch.
And you can not insert bots in the game.

I will be sticking with Quake III and the the Unreal Tournament games I play.
Their multiplayer lets you insert bots and open up as many human spots as you want.
They are a far better choice for multiplayer.

I am just not into single player games.

Here is a great page with codes for single player, and to test your frames per second.
You even have the original Doom game installed, and can access it via the info in the page above.

how about some screen shots, Corey? I haven't gotten a chance to go buy it yet, but when I get money, I will. Next month probably.

The only screen shots I have are of me firing the weapon at stuff since I did not make it in single player far enough to find the bad guys.

Go to Doom's site for lots of good shots.
http://www.doom3.com/

If you are into single player action, it is a great game.
I watched Drew play for about 20 or more minutes this morning.
There is lots of action, and some areas are dark and you must use your flashlight to see the zombies and monsters.
If you don't, they can kill you very fast.

I'll try live multiplayer later, but this just is not my cup of tea after having played the other mentioned games which offer much better multiplayer.

If you want a good single and multiplayer game, check out UT 2004.

You can thank the pirates for this. It is most likely done to prevent people from running the came from an image on the HDD using CD emulation software. Some of us do this with legitimate copies of purchased software, but not all. The doftware companies have no choice really. Pirating has been out of hand for a long time. I believe games and patches would rev faster if the game development companies were making more money on each release. Pirating cuts into the profits and forces them to work with fewer resources than they might justify otherwise. I understand the other point of view as well. I was a kid without money once too.

I have been playing the single player more & more as of late.
Played it yesterday for awhile, and today when I got home from work.

Here are some good sites for codes:
http://www.consolecheatcodes.com/pc/doom3cheats.html

http://www.cheatcc.com/pc/doom3.html

http://www.actiontrip.com/cheats/doom3.phtml

I just used this one to bind the P key so I can get 3rd person view if I want.
Third person view:
Using your text editor to edit the "doomconfig.cfg" file in the game folder. Add the following line to the file, the press P during game play:

bind "p" "toggle pm_thirdperson"

Like mentioned earlier, I am not that much into single player games as I like to fight with live characters.
But the single player in this rocks, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Enemies will come out at you from no where.
You better have some ammo in your weapon, and know how to reload it fast.

Also if you have a killer sound system like I do for the PC, crank it.
The percussion from the bass of the weaponry will rock ya
I will admit I do use one cheat in single player, and that is to have all weapons.

ctrl, alt, ~ brings down the console, and you type in:
give all
and you have all the weapons.
Makes it more fun to blow up the zombies.

Now only if they had made the multiplayer fun, this game would get a much higher score.

Corey, Corey, Corey.... I can't believe you're using a cheat. I'm proud to say so far I've made without a single cheat. I don't but using the soul cube or bfg on the slow walking zombies just doesn't seem right. I'm about done, I'm in the alien ruins dig site right now, just when I think this game can't get better it does. Following the story line on the monitors and PDAs is a nice touch, and the atmosphere just gets more and more amazing. Just wait til you see hell....

I'll watch my boy's get to that level, or I'll cheat to get to it
I don't plan on finishing the game, as I just can't get into single player games.

What I like about multiplayer games is there is not cheating, cheat codes do not work, everyone is equal.
Some do manage to cheat, but if you play on a good server, they have "punk buster" software that prevents any cheating.

PS, in this review, they have a few review movies on page 2 or so.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/review.html

Good presentation of it.

Good presentation of it.

then one person seems to get around the punk buster and then ever person that has any talent is deemed a cheater.....thats why i went to xbox online games...and guess what...people found ways to cheat....oh well i guess its human nature for some people to be better then others by any means nessacary....
