any "Overclockers" here?

Just curious if any of my fellow yotatechers are.
Since we like to mod our trucks for better performance or looks, i'm sure some of you like to do the same to videocards, amd/intel cpus, cases.. etc...

anyone?

I played around with overclocking my old PII. It was a 233, I got it to run at 300 (I think), but it got hot fast. This was a few years ago.

I have not OC'd the CPU yet.
I did set it to turbo mode in the BIOS and the PC would not boot.
Had to reset it all over again after going to stock BIOS with F8 option.

May look into the area where you change the #s sometime.
Asus did release a utilty that lets you OC while in Windows, but have not tried it either.

Now the FX5200 I run, I have ran that wide open with Asus's utilty, and I got no hic-cups while in a game.
Did not see that great of a difference, so I just run it stock.

Cases?
When I built mine I just went with a plain jane case, but have since had fun modding it.
You can see how my new PC has progressed here with case mods, fan mods, graphic card fan mod, ect.

I had my xp 2500+ running at 3200+ but I dont like my heat sink. I have my pc3200 hyperX running @ 166 along with the cpu. The highest I went was to 200 but didnt try to go higher. Once I get better cooling I will.

I used to, but now I can afford to go as fast as I need to without sacrificing stability.

I'm currently running a pair of PIII 750s at 112MHz (840MHz). Not a serious overclocking, but they seem to be doing fine.

I used to overclock my CPU as well as FSB in the good ol' days of PIIs and PIIIs. But right now with 3.2Ghz the overclocking doesn't seem to make that much of the difference and to me 3.2 and 3.4 seem pretty much the same. Or maybe I just don't have time to play any games anymore, who knows..

i just updgraded my system 2weeks ago from an 1600xp @ 1.73ghz (2100xp) which i donated to my gf's siblings since they needed a new computer.
here is my new setup:
2500+ amd barton stable at 3200+ (11x200)
asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
gf4 ti4400 @4600 speeds. 1.5 year old vidcard.
Geil ultra pc3200.

Its been 1.5 years since i steered away from overclocking. Why? I find it addicting and it seems i want to upgrade ever 3months $$$$.. but i prefer to buy toys for my toy taco now.

amusement: sweet overclock!

toy283, atomizer: as long as its stable its a succesfful overclock.

andrey: it was just nice to know that i saved $ from settling for a 2500+($90) overclocked to 3200+ than a stock speed 3200+ ($300) chip. but i do notice some increased performance from my last setup. Some.. but not much. besides, i only do some gaming and yotatech browsing. Nothing too cpu extensive.

Our PCs are all obsolete
But everyone knows that the day they build it.

Just bought the new Maximum PC the other day, and you should see all the stuff (new tech) that is being developed for '04.
I have read about some it before such as the new PCI Express, but there's more.

The ATX form factor like we have now will be going to BTX cases and mobos since components can be arraigned better for more airflow.

DDR2 memory will be coming out.
The future vid cards will not be AGP, but back to PCI again on the new PCI Express bus which will blow away AGP.

There is to much info in the mag for me to go into here, but it's worth picking up and giving it a read.
Plus it comes with a CD with a full version of an Army game called Hidden & Dangerous which I will load sometime today if I get motivated enough.

One thing I am glad of though.
My Asus P4P800 mobo is suppose to be able to support the new Prescott Intel chip which will work with the Intel 865PE & 875 Chipset.
Mine has the former.

Not sure how fast the Prescott CPUs will be, but I['d imagine up to 4 GHz?
That would be cool if I could slap one in to replace my 2.4C chip down the road.
Not that I need more power, the 2.4 is very fast, and even faster since Mark helped me to "unload" a few things that were residing in the memory.

My next upgrade will be two sticks of these.
That will give me a total of 1.5 Gig since I have 512 now.

Hmm... I don't really know what all this is about, but as long as I can surf the net and play some music I'm chill.

To cold here to do my rig, plus we have snow.
Instead I'm going to Porter Cable my PC case

I ought to be able to clay, polish, and wax it in less than 5 minutes.

Yeah, I have seen those in the mags, but not the actual GIF of them in action.
Cool...

Hey, the old man here just OC'd.
I was talking to Andy (Drew on the forum) on the telephone just a bit ago, and I used him as a guinea pig

He's OC'd his Asus P4C800 mobo before to 20 or 30%.
His board has the ladies voice messaging on it, mine does not.
The P4P800 Deluxe has it, but I have the plain jane P4P800.

He did his at 30% and it would not boot up all the way, and a womans voice came over his PC speaker and said it was overclocked to much.
He got it to run at 20% OK.

With both of our Asus boards, it's a cinch to OC.
You just go to the advanced setting, then jumper free configuration in the BIOS.

I have a 2.4, and after setting mine to 10%, this is what I get.
10% overclocked
As you can see, my 2.4 GHz bumped up to 2.64 GHz

I then went back and set it to 20%.
20% overclocked
2.88 GHz, not bad 'eh?

I also used the Asus Port Probe to see my CPU & mobo temps before and after.

Before any changes

After overclocking

The temps stayed the same for both, but the 12 & 5 v settings changed some.
That may just be normal flux, not sure.

And after checking the CPU temp once again after being up for about 15 minutes, it's only gone up to 78 degrees, one degree.

Will I harm the mobo or anything this way do you think?
I notice Photoshop opens a lot quicker.
Not sure if I will keep it this way for long or not.
I'd hate to fry anything.

I have over clocked my P4P800 for several months without any issues. Enjoy! P4P800 can handle 423 P4 CPU up to 3.2 Ghz.

OK, that is good to know.
But when I OC mine, is it like running a 3.0 or 3.2 chip, or is it overheating the stock chip?

Did you know about the Asus Windows utility?
I just installed it, looks cool.

I have not played with any settings, but it already knows I am at 2.88 GHz.

Here's an expanded view of it.

If you want it for your P4P800, here it is.
