Yet another 2nd Gen CB install. With Pics.

I got a good deal on a Uniden CB radio. It's apretty basic model, but it fits the spot I wanted it perfectly.

I was inspired by Slee offroads install putting the CB into the ash tray location.

This was a little more involved than putting it in an 80 series.
I removed the ash tray, and ash tray slides, and then removed the lower console trim.

I cut out the center console trim so that the CB would slide in all the way. However, I found a problem.

I found the amplifier for the stero system sitting behind the ash tray location.
This made it so the CB wouldn't sit flush with the console trim piece.
With a little poking and prodding, I figured I could move the amp behind the cubby hole that sits under the stock stereo.

With the amp moved, the CB sat flush with the trim piece, however the cable that I was using interfered with the heater duct. Following the directions on Slee Offroad, I removed the CB's antenna connector from the radio, and soldered the antenna cable in.

It's pretty much a slip fit, with tension from the lower lip, but since I plan on driving this truck on some fire roads, I installed teh supplied bracket, and zip tied the bracket to the trim piece. It's in there good and solid.

Here are a few pics of the 4Runner and the CB installed (sorry, I didn't get any in progress pics).

The Antenna is mounted to the rear tire carrier tube (it's not too clear in the pic). During testing, I found that the signal was more than adequate, and I was talking to people several miles away as clearly as CB allows.
