need help finding a ground

I am trying to install a cobra 75 wxst and i couldn't find a ground. The factory grounds wouldn't work. The only ground that would work was the neg. terminal on the battery and that fried the wires. Any suggestions.

Any metal part of the car body is a ground. You just attach the wire to a screw anywhere close to the radio. Just make sure the screw goes into a metal dash mount or firewall, etc.

Here's how I did mine and following the write-up I mention on my page.

Wait a minute... Can you describe "fried the wires"?

If the "factory grounds" wouldn't work, then I have to ask if you're hooking it up correctly. You should be going Red to positive and Black to ground. A switched positive lead can be found at the back of the cig lighter, factory radio, off the ignition switch, etc. You can also run straight to the battery, but it's not really recommended since you could leave the radio on accidently and run the battery down.

Depending on what you mean by the wires being "fried", then I would guess that you had a short. Did the fuse blow? If not, then the radio is probably toast.

Before you try hooking up the radio again, let's define what you did up front.
