PLBs has been out for a few years.

what EPIRBS did for water, PLBs will do for land usage...

now if the dang prices would only drop to under $300....

and some PLBs dont have a GPS receiver in them. rather they use radios to emit their signals to a series of satellite.

the more expensive ones do have GPS receiver to beam you location. mid range ones have a GPS interface.

but the importan part with PLBs is that before each of your trip, make sure you let the authorities about your trip plans. and that you register your unit.

makes false alarm very rare...

btw, that FORBES description of a PLB is so wrong in so many ways...
