Having a problem tuning>

Hey all, So I have a Motorola 20-XTR and have been trying to figure out how to tune it. I have done some research about how to use a SWR meter, but the instructions are different for every tuner. I am using my friends meter and would love to hear how exactly you do it. i am not home to tell you what the meter says on it but i know its slightly different...thank you.

What I did was picked a channel to tune it to. I chose like channel 20 or so and got the lowest possible SWR reading I could get by turning the screw on my Firestik. Then it will sweep up to either side from there meaning the highest SWR reading should be at channel 1 and 40. It's very easy to do and you can tune to any channel. I should have tuned it to 4 since I really only ever use it for offroading and the group I go with always uses 4.

The Firestik web page has a good how-to on SWR tuning. All the meters I have used have at least two modes, CALibrate and SWR. Connect the meter to the radio with the patch cable and then the antenna to the meter's "ANT" connector. Switch meter to CAL, key up the mic on the CB, adjust the CAL knob so the meter reads full scale. Then switch to SWR and key the mic again, read the SWR, lower is better. I use Ch1 and Ch40, set the SWR to be equal between the two channels. If SWR on 1 is higher than on 40, lengthen the antenna, if 40 is higher, shorten it. You can check 20 if you want.
