Garmin Mapsource
Hey I just recently purchased a Garmin GPSmap 76. Its a little bit of an older model, but, I dont have enough money to buy a fancy one.
Anyways, the basemap only has main roads and highways, but, I really want it to have the smaller streets in my area and whatnot.
Anyone know what map source programs work with garmin? Can you just go and buy any one? They are like $100 which kinda sucks though.

Mapsource should work with any of the Garmin GPS units. It will come on any of the mapping CDs, so you don't have to buy is separate. The Roads and Rec CD is decent for small roads, just does not do routing all that well.

The topo maps are SWEET... and then some.. very much worth the cash...
the program itself, mapsource, is an excellent program. You can also download nroute and have a moving map... Here is an example of the topo and the program...

I also have the cityselect and use it regulary. I plan to get the newest version when I get home. Its a great progam, like carrying a phone book with instructions.

I believe MapSource is a superior product to all the other mapping programs that I've seen out there. It does have it's (simple) limitations, but it works well none-the-less.
However, I know you can pick up Delorme's new version on DVD for cheap. Like, $40 or so if I remember correctly.
