I use APRS so I can be found if I ever get really badly lost or in trouble. Even out in the wilds of central Nevada last weekend I got good coverage. I'll be General class in a couple of days so I can use HF to get even better coverage when there's no repeaters.

Oh gawd!

My Dad has become obsessed with ham radio in the last 2 years. He has spent thousands on junk, remodeled the largest room in the house to be his ham shack, has antennas all over the yard, stays up all night to "DX" some new places and everytime he keys up his mike the radio turns to static and the tv picture turns sideways! I'm glad he found a hobby but it drives me crazy...

Lamm - your pops needs to look into adding some appropriate filters to his gear. It is technically illegal to interfere with public TV and radio signals.

He might also want to make sure his power supply is on a dedicated circuit or at least not on the same circuit as the tube.
