What happened to the spring? if you have that you should be able to tuck it into the wind deflector to get in and out of the garage. PITA I guess, but its not like you don't have to get back out of your rig to use the quick disconnect.

 

I like your solution kiyobrown. Right before I pull in I just tuck it. Nice.

I know for ham radio equipment it is not essential to have the antenna at a high point on the rig because ham deals with repeaters and line of site transmission and reception. CB is a bit different.

 

After I put the spring on I hooked up the SWR meter again and with some tuning I get the needle on the meter to barely move. All channels are at about at 1.1 tops.

Hi. Quick question.

What did you use to secure the cb in the slot. I remember seeing a specific "howto" somewhere, but be damned if I can find it now.
Basicly, I want to install mine in the same spot. I want the unit secured firmly and flush and not have any screws/bolts sticking out on the trim.

Any hints or redirects?

 

Never mind... I checked the links at the top (after I replied) and in all my worrying about being clean and looking at just the trim the cb is installed in, I forgot that the trim piece UNDERNEATH would cover up any bolts.

I actually didn't use strap and screws to secure mine. I used some heavy duty velco. Which I like better because I can take mine out and not have to remove the dash area. With the Velcro it has never moved. Very secure.

 

you'll want to get an external cb speaker.. my cb is the same location and it was impossible to hear anything at highway speeds until i got a little external speaker and put it on the dash covering the vin.. now the sound bounces off the windshield and i can hear it from outside the rig

 

CB isnt any different.
Most all radio communications are line of sight.

 

K so, Im having an issue with mine. Initially, TR447 copied my idea and his is working perfectly. but I cant even get mine to transmit past 100 or so feet? My brother and I are both having the same issue. We bought a SWR meter from radio shack. but when we tune it, the SWR gauge pings all the way to the right as far as it can go. does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get this thing working and functional

Did by chance get the ground wire and center wire switched at the antenna? Also is the center bolt that goes thru the insulating pieces touching the mount ? I am guessing it is the type of mount that has a bolt to mount the antenna to the mounting bracket.
Also did you calibrate the meter before use ?

 

Did you ever buy a 90 degree? I was just installing my CB last night but apparently, my 4Runner has the "fancy" stereo so there is a little amp thing behind the dash in that location. It makes my unit stick out pretty far. Just curious if you saved space...
