I voted for XM 'cause I have it... Sirius has a better hair-band rock station though.
The bottom line is that _today_ they both suck in comparison to what they were when they started. They're both short on bandwidth for stations and the competitive pressure is making them add MORE stations. That means that the only way they can do this is to compress the other stations even MORE which makes them sound ... argh.
Anyway... either one is a good investment, I haven't listened to FM since I installed XM like 3+ years ago.

I need something more current. As you might know, technology does change.

I was given sirius (starmate replay) and a year subscription from my gf because of my stern addiction. The only thing I don't like about the starmate is the darn thing is too bright when driving at night (no option to dim or turn off the backlight). I usually have to cover the display.
I don't listen to much besides stern but the programing is seems pretty neat.
If I had my way I would add a sirius module to my eclipse hu, but my 8454 won't support one.

Sirius...
I have the Kenwood EZ700SR Receiver with built in Sirius Tuner:
Flip-Down Detachable Faceplate
Rotary Encoder for Easy Operation
5x7 Dot Matrix LCD Display with White LED Backlight
Maximum Output Power : 50W x 4 (MOSFET Power IC)
WMA/MP3 Playback
System Q-Ex/System E's
Built-in SIRIUS Satellite Radio Tuner
HD Radio Ready
External Media Control — iPod Ready
AUX Input
3 Preouts
Supplied with Remote Control Unit (Grip Type, 10-key)
Supplied with Sirius Satellite Radio Antenna
I think it is a very cool unit and I love the Sirius channel line-up. I just took a 1500 mi. road trip and had uninterupted music selection the entire trip, including off roading.
I like the NFL and MLB content on Sirius too.

I love Sirius. The content is very creditable. I've had it for just on 1yr. I never listen to FM anymore and even my CD collection is having a long rest. I mostly listen to Stern channels (Bubba The Love Sponge is LOL stuff) but the diversity of rock channels is very cool too.
Mine is the Roadster. Can change the display color to closely (not too much so tho) match the stock display colors in the rest of the truck. The remote is ultra useful for me. I use the FM Mod. that is ok but I'd rather a better connection.

Expat,
I used to use an external FM module and switched to the current set up for better reception. I needed a new stereo anyways, so I switched to the Kenwood receiver with built in Sirius tuner.
The only time I ever loose a signal is when I go into a tunnel, under a parking garage, etc.

I have XM right now using the following setup:
Alpine cda-9826 head-unit which is XM or Sirius Compaitble
Terk XMD1000 Tuner
Terk Adapter for Alpine Head-units
I've had both Sat. Radio services and I really would like to go back to Sirius. The XM programming is getting old. Everytime I get in friend's cars with Sirius, I hear great songs that I never hear played on XM.

I have read a lot about sirius having better quality music. I am no elitest by any means, but I do enjoy variety of music.
My Alpine HU is old(no mp3 capability or xm) I would like to get something that I can take in and out of my car and walk around with.
The roadster seems to be the top selling unit. hmm....i might get this soon, as I am headed to SC this weekend, and its a longg way w/o good music!
I guess it would help to say what kind of music I like...
Saves the Day
Taking back sunday .....yea the emo type of music
I also like the throwback hits.
I listen to a little of everything.

sirius is awesome.. good music, good news, things like traffic reports every 4 minutes is very useful, etc.
i am also a stern fan, so that is a big huge plus for me... plus they have the nfl.
i just wish they had mlb.

hmm...i cant decide if I want XM or Sirius. I guess Ill have to do a trial of them both to see which I like better.
I would imagine that they would be very similiar in the music aspect. As far as sports, I dont like to listen to it over the radio, Im a visual person..

They'll both be very similar in the mobile experience - i.e., you can listen to the same station coast-to-coast; the artist/track are displayed as it plays (on any of the player options); both have terrestrial transmitters to fill-in dead spots in urbnan areas (though trees are still and issue when you're on the trail)...
If you're a "portable" person, then there's a receiver out there for XM that's a real portable receiver. i.e., about the size of a "traditional" walkman and it'll receive live broadcasts. Sirius' offering is a _player_ that you can preload with 4ish hours of broadcast programming, then take off it's cradle and wander with it.
Whichever you choose, I strongly recommend that you _not_ go with a single DIN head unit that is sat ready. The downside of doing that is you lose display features. You can still get artist/track, but the display is scrolling, or you have to hit a button to switch. It'll take up dash/windshield space, but the standard sat receiver offerings have a lot better display options.
