also what kind of Sub are you running? the 300 watt rms power at 2 ohms may not be quite enough power. Always go about 100 watts over the subs recommended power and use the gain to reduce that. the reason is if you are under powering your sub then the motor has to work harder to make noise, also meaning the amp is working harder to produce it. both produce heat and then all of a sudden the amp shuts off. bad juju. my 12in sub alone uses 1000 watts rms and is 87% power efficient (remarkable for a 7 yr old sub). i run an amp that is single channel, 1/2 ohm, 1400 watt rms, just to run the sub (also not many subs/ amp combos can handle 1/2 ohm). also remember enclosure size matters alot and if your running a bandpass or simular enclosure the sound reproduction will not be near as crisp as a normal enclosure.

yeah i was looking into that, and decided to probably go with a jl audio sub that runs at 4 ohms and handles 300 watts RMS

that would mean your amp is insufficient to run it. Honest man i would use the 4ch to run your mids and highs and them buy another amp with atleast 400-600 watts rms. JL makes a great sub. one of the first places i worked was for a JL dealer (before i went to car audio school) even the W0 with as cheap as it was did wonders in the right enclosure. My second subwoofer i had (in a VW bug) was a JL W6 10" dual coil 2 ohm. I series the coils to make 4 ohm and hooked it to an older rockford amp ( cheater amp) and the beat was deafening. I am more of a sound quality guy and listen to alot of country and old rock so i decided on the Image Dynamics IDMAX 12' D2 V.3 ( because i like it and i got it for under half retail) and am MA Audio 1400 watt amp. they "match" perfect.

Yep. I'll maybe do that in the future because I'm trying to keep things at a relatively low cost for now, until I'm able to gather a bit more cash. How'd the W0 sound? I'm considering a W1 or W3. From your experience with JL's, would you suggest a sealed or ported? I'm going for the quality and not just volume.

well the W0 works great with a sealed enclosure. the 10 W3 is great either way. I had one in a ported enclosure and it rocked 1.5 cubic ft exactly! wanna know a great way to cheat with an enclosure? if your using mdf, after it is all built, line it with fiberglass resin, not the fabric just the resin, you can gain a full octive just doing that.

I tend to like hidden enclosures. In my Speed 3 I took out the spare tire and built an amp rack for my two JL amps. In a Runner you could build a false floor and mount the amp under it or if you want to display it for a select few then you could flush mount it. Most decient amps tend to be on the larger size so under the seat rarely works. In another life I use to install as well. I still do it for friends and on my own stuff. I would agree with John on the power for the subs. I have three JLW3 v2 subs and each is getting fed an honest 250W RMS. The other concern you may want to think about is the type of music you listen to most. I like punchy base that hits you in the back of the head so sealed enclosures an 10's work better for me. If you're more into the deeper boomy type then you may want a ported 12 instead. No matter which remember like most things in life size does matter so pick the right sub with the correct enclosure type / size.

Cheers

Yeah I'm gonna power it with 300w rms. I actually prefer the "punchy", and not so much the deep "boomy" type. I'm going with a sub that's already enclosed actully

I try to build my enclosures to match the vehicle and most of my customers wanted their stuff displayed so it usually went behind some plexi or on a metal/plexi rack. spare tire areas are great startes for fiberglass enclosures as well.
if i were building this system for all intensive perposes, i would probably use the back seat as the rear of the enclosure that housed the amp and sub, placing the amp behind a sheet of plexi with 2 fans for pulling and pushing air. match fabric to factory fabric and sand and bondo any inperfections in the enclosure, round off any edges as well. with the angle of the seat you can match it right up to it and not take up and enormous room out the back.

I decided to not go with anything too extensive, and am planning to fit it in the rear cargo side storage area. I've measured and made sure it would fit. I just need to wire it!

I will be

One idea I had: I was going to put a platform over each of the wheel wells to maybe mount 6x9s on (no need to argue about putting round 6.25's or 6.75's..) and an amp on each side.

I feel a bit more enthusiastic to do this now

I'm going to start planning out, and measure out as soon as my amp comes in.
I'm not sure whether to mount the 6x9's at a slant on the wells, or mount them flat on the wheel wells. Mounting them flat would leave quite a bit of hang over the edge..

2 channel -4 channel amp and 6 channel of AB class will always produce more heat then a mono class D amp witch is usually used for subs only putting an AB class amp under seat like that will tend to melt seat slowly

And i dont think ur amp is strong enough .... u should only use amp for ur 6x9 and get yourself a mono class D amp for ur sub for the best performance out of ur system

I had a minor collision, so I'm waiting a small while on the amp until I pay for repairs..
