I prefer LCD but love DLP. You just can't get a 65" LCD Tv.

I posted in one of these other threads about Tv's with my reason why I liked DLP.

Here is a picture from the movie Ice Age 2 running at 1080P over HDMI on Blu-Ray.

I really like color tv's

projectors are "cheap" (er) and easy, I move every three months so its the only good choice for me, very compact

Its a quirk of the way the "add poll" works that you have to start the thread in order to add the poll. Takes about 3 minutes... in the meantime people see the redundant thread. Maybe Corey will combine them.

Wanted the poll result to augment the discussion in the other thread.

You are just too fast....

I guess so.

Heres what I posted

We have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP television and it is probably the nicest looking TV I've ever seen. The picture is extremely clear *given the correct programming* and the viewing angle is very good. I can sit at 170* and still see the whole picture without distortion.

We also have a 37" LCD tv, that too looks amazing but it's no 65".

I just saw a 65" LCD (largest available) at Ultimate Electronics fro something like $9k.

I like LCD since burn in of on-screen IDs and video games isn't an issue and screen life is the longest. We have a 42" LG and the picture is great.

I prefer the LCD's because of efficiency. Anyone know what their plasma draws in current (or watts)?

CRT, why the heck do I need to spend ungodly amounts of money on a thing I watch less than I use my pc (which is alot). I also have a CRT pc monitor and hate LCD's.

FWIW, all these new technologies cost you up front alot of money. Do you really need a huge tv-I equate the size of a tv to the size of a mans parts, bigger the tv smaller the parts (joke).

But really, unless your some kinda electronics freak why does one need anything bigger than 36"? I admit the biggest tv we own is a 7 year old sony wega flatscreen (note the screenis flat not the entire tv) and the only reason we have it is cause my dad won it through work. Its a nice tv but I was happy with my 19"..I dont need supercrisp picture quality, HDtv, or even dish or digital cable. Even with 200 channels, still nothing much to watch.

Why spend 2 grand on something that will eventually fail when you can buy many more goodies instead?

In my defense, it was replacing a smaller TV that was 15+ years old.

EDIT: Nothing else beats watching the playoffs on a huge tv.

CRT hands down. i had a 26" trinitron, which is over 25 years old. went in for servicing for the first time last year..and still has decent picture . just added to that a new 36" wega xbr. do i need to spend 3 Large on a new plasma/lcd? hells no. i cant stand the picture quality of the new tv's...too pixelated, contrasty, blown out whites, ghosting & slow refresh rates and can only view from certain angles. i also prefer my two crt's for my comp. they're old ass..i need to replace em but its rare to find decent new crt's these days . only thing i dont like about em is obviously their size & weight. thing same goes for photographic prints..i like the look of film better...it has more depth & feel to it. but i guess as technology advances everything is going to be going digital...

call me old school, call me jaded..just dont kill everything and make it digital!

Well then perhaps its justified, still I cant justify myself spending so much on something that goes out of style in a few years.

This is how I roll, why spend so much on a tv. Plus I agree the new tv's displays are way to bright for me.

My friend just bought a DLP and its really nice and sharp he got a 56" I believe. I hear it is low cost maintence. LCD's are decent but not as sharp to me. I voted projection b/c my best friend has one and it owns. The bulb and unit does generate alot of heat however. Plasma is nice but I live at altitude and I hear they don't fare very well for long periods of time above 5000ft even the "high altitude" ones. This came from a local sales rep.

So rank for me:
Projection
DLP
LCD
Plasma

Yes, you are right. I agree with you. We got one hell of a deal on a display unit. It was way too good to pass up.

Let me put it this way.

It was like going into a Toyota dealership looking for a 4runner and they show you this nice 4wd V8 completely nice Limited model. The sticker is priced as a base model SR5. They give you the SR5 price.... leave it at this...

I got my 42" LCD for just under $1500 and it really depends on the size of the room for the size of the TV and while 42" might be a bit overkill it still makes for a great viewing experience and NHL 2K7 looks great on it.

You can get the 37" LG LCD for just over $1200 so I figured another 5" was worth a couple hundred more.

Rear Projection. The picture is good, especially with the HD cable box, they are big, and reasonably affordable. We got a 53" panasonic two years ago for $1500.

I play computer games on a 32" Viewsonic LCD with HD. The quality is phenomenal. I don't know how you could NOT like it.

I prefer DLP and also the newer laser projection tv's set to come out soon. The reasons:

Colors just as vibrant as plasma and lcd
Native contrast ratio is much higher
Motion blur is not an issue
Cost less for same sizes
Much thinner than older rear projection
No burn in

I'm really looking forward to laser projection. Though, I'm going to get a Westinghouse 42" LCD 1080p monitor for now... for computer/blu-ray viewing.. Actually Westinghouse just unveiled a 2160p LCD monitor... that is an insane amount of resolution. Though your input device would have to at least support hdmi 1.3 for that res. support. The PS3 does have hdmi 1.3, so, through software patches/firmware upgrades, it should be able to support 1440p and possibly 2160p. But, honestly, I think 1080p is enough... and at most 1440p... but anyway... DLP/Laser projection are awesome technologies that have longer lifespan than plasma, less motion blur and higher contrast ratio than lcd.
