Pioneer Headunit, amp under drivers seat running a single 12" pioneer sub in custom box. So here goes.

I will post more when the box is complete. As you can see in one of the pics, the box is going to curve over the wheel arch. It's gluing at the mo. Will attach it and glass it in place. Hope some of you get some ideas. Cheers, Dan

Despite others haveing rattling - i have put 1 in my 97, 98, 99 4runners and get no rattling - you have to secure it well to the side pieces. I like it because it looks finished, you cant see a sub from the outside (no theft) and a single 10" alpine type E is what i put in - that combined with infinity reference components for the front and reg. infinity reference for the rear doors all powered by an alpine 4 channel 600w amp sounds real nice. Punchy and clear.

Q-logic makes something similar. More expensive than DIY.

http://www.qlogicenclosures.com/c-3926-4-runner.aspx Other Years

I personally just have a huge box with 2 12" subs, but ive pretty much lost the utility for hauling large loads, but $300 is a bit much to drop for something I personally need 1-2 times a year. If I had the extra cash I would do it.

*EDIT* Ahh... I see someone posted the same thing while I was running around gathering the URLs. Great minds think alike!

I am personally going to make a cargo box for the trumk and build in 2 12" subs and the amps into it. That way they are invisable from both the outside and even if you were in the back you would not know they were there! that should put a damper on thiefs wanting to take my stuff again.

This will also let me get all my stuff put in the "floor" to save space and make a cleaner trunk.

I did a set of 10's one in each storage compartment in my runner(90) work great sound(1600 watt 6 channel amp) flows real well to the front no problems.
I am thinking now about a false floor if you will in the storage area and building the subs into it and might even add more subs.

My thought is to make it like a few of the guys here have for gear storage and isolate a few areas and box them for subs giving them the air space needed for them to work proper set them in angled forward a bit to move the sound more to the front then the roof yet still keep the floor as close to flat as possible and build a protective cover over them.

Just thought you may be able to use an idea or two and with experace in the storage compartment's i can say they work real well but I did forget to say that I dyna matted the them so the sound is forced outward more and no rattle.

I do, when me and my friends go out we will usually camp/hang out someplace while out there. And I have a choice, listen to *cough* sony radios or bring my own nice one. I will bring my own.

Not bad.

How well do the 2 10" fit in the rear BTW? Would 2 12" fit width wise? I have not actually messured yet...

Well the 10's were close but then I built a 3/4 mdf front face over the face of the storage compartment and it lifted it out a few inchs so it made the basket fit better.

Now here's the small issue you may run into with 12's

With my 10's the air volume is at .70 and they require .75 so you may end up with air volume issues with the 12's unless you build the face out farther and open the storage space some then reline the sides(front to rear) not the right to left with mdf and dyna mat to get the correct air volume for 12's

Haha, i have a nice deck, 2 8 inch speakers in the front and 2 good 6x9's in the back. I dont want anymore than that. The guy before had an insane system in my 4runner when it was stock. I told him to keep it and take a 1000 bucks off the price which he did.

Yeah they are pretty big but that's why I've got the 5% window tint. I had the luggage cover in there but it rattled really bad when I bumped, if anyone wants it I'll sale it! lol And if anyone trys to break in hopefully my "black widow" security system will scare them away.. haha

yea i knew you had some pretty dark tint on there. subs will probably be the last thing i do to my runner.

if you dont want to take up to much room back there try a bazookatube.

haha... that's nt a huge system...my three premier 12s was a huge systems for a 4Runner ...but i'm just jokin with ya...however, to get back on topic...if you are trying to save space, then go with a sub mounted onthe sides like in the pic above. but if yu want the most output and best sound then face the sub towards the liftgate...
