Never hooked it up. I just look at the map and I am ok.
The only voice I hear is when I type in a destination. The female voice says something like "Proceed to the highlighted route then the route guidance will continue"

May want to look into Eclipse.
http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/index.html

The guy that sells them by me (Soundsation, Staten Island, NY) did mention that the unit with the hard drive (5435) did get very hot.
Enough to be unconfy to touch/hold a cd that comes out after a while. BUt I haven't seen much on the net about it, and he said there were no big flaws, just gets hot.
